Sorry, but what law requires anyone to publicly disclose their tax forms if they are running (or have run) for public office?

The emergent like request for his taxes was literally written in the court papers-- for them to study if the auditors were auditing correctly. This should alarm enough people to stop it.

I guess most democrats/DC don't get audited because the money they make to make them wealthy is parked in the Cayman Islands bank.

Tax return won’t provide this info

On the income front, it won't matter. They're likely to try to reverse engineer some "he's not really worth that much" or "he's not really that good of a businessman" narrative from his income from investments. Anything less than his constantly beating the market is going to be something they'll try to use to wedge supporters away.

They're that scared. They're that desperate.

You can be a billionaire and have no income in a given year.

I think he could easily hand them over.
He is not handing them over for a reason.
The only thing I can think of is to force it to the Supreme Court. Get a ruling that he has to turn them over. This will set a precedent that others must do the same. Trump has advocated for auditing politicians and their families and businesses every two years. Maybe it’s a means to an end. Just spitballing here so I’d like others opinions too.

So congress, then the MSM, and ultimately the idiots on Twitter will find criminal activity hidden in his tax returns where the experts at the IRS haven’t after all these years.

Yes let’s use the one guy ever that didn’t take a presidential salary to do this. No this isn’t a witch hunt at all. Probable cause? Not applicable because OMB

90% of the posts in this thread are inapposite re THIS lawsuit.

26 USC 6103(f)(1)
quote:

Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Committee on Finance of the Senate, or the chairman of the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.
The Congressional request to the IRS is clearly authorized by statute, and Congress has very broad discretion in conducting its investigations, so long as those investigations are tied in some way to a valid legislative purpose.

All that remains is speculation about ulterior motives.

For the most part, the courts have deferred to Congress on that point. Trump is asking that this be one of rare instances in which the courts should limit Congressional discretion in exercising its authority.

The procedural history of this litigation is interesting. Congress made the request while Trump was still in office, and he directed his secretary of the treasurer to decline the congressional request for data, so Congress sought enforcement of Section 6103.

When Trump left office, the Biden administration would have been willing to provide the data, but Trump intervened to prevent it, as I recall.

They want to cherry pick certain years and illustrate where he didn't pay any taxes and promote that he is not paying his "fair share". That is not only to get at Trump, but to promote the overall narrative that wealthy people get away with not paying any taxes.

I'm not an expert, but Trump's wealth is in real estate. I would expect that his returns will be all over the place. Some years you have more capital investment than income, so you lose money. Other years, you might sell a property and have huge profits.

I also expect that they will try to find where he valuates a property at "X" amount and then sells it at "Y" amount a year or two later, and show that X is radically different than Y and that he fraudulently valuated his property to game the system.

Maybe they want to look at how he legally avoids taxes and create new tax law to stifle such activity.

The Rep House should open an investigation of the Biden's and their play for pay schemes and subpoena their tax returns.

You get the ceegar. The enemies of Trump have known every detail of his taxes and financial statements for well over 5 years. These anti Trump forces simply want to use anything they can dig up against Trump. I’m sure unpaid parking and health code violation at some of Trump’s hotels will be exposed before this insanity is over.

Career politicians won't have anything interesting on their personal returns.

For example, I would think that Hillary Clinton's personal return would be pretty vanilla. I would be more interested in auditing the Clinton Foundation or other organizations that she is affiliated with.

And deception. Former VP Biden said he'd work to unify the country.

Anyone feeling the unity?

Trump's weakness is that he's adamant in boasting about what he'll do. He'll telegraph his intentions, and never pause to think that doing so gives his enemies time to maneuver and counter his plans. He thinks declaring his motives is enough to cause the other side to back down. And with few allies, he paints himself into a corner.

Because like I’ve always said, about a third of the Democratic electorate can be easily brainwashed in a matter of seconds. On social media, they are usually identified by a Ukraine flag in the avatar, as well as a little “I got my Covid booster!” banner. And in some instances, an updated profile pic with themselves wearing a mask. This will be another thing they can scream “See! This is why Trump need to be in jail!!!”

This is totally correct. They USED to exist when their SIDE was rising to power, but they have long since died out. If you're younger than 50 you know zero "regular democrats." They have been lock-step for many decades.
