I fully expect South Florida to get hit really hard in the coming days/weeks. They have a high population density (compared to what we have here in Jacksonville) and they got slammed with spring breakers and snowbirds from NYC and NJ. It's a perfect storm.

Fortunately I only know of one person with CV. They are currently in the hospital. The patient is 82 years old and on a vent. A superb person that I pray for.

FWIW, I am in West St. Tammany and know a shite ton of people. I suppose I am just lucky only knowing one person battling CV.

That Kinsa data is pretty accurate.

I imagine the guy who invented it is about to be a very, very rich guy.

It's true I have heard a lot about down in New Orleans. But it seems pretty contained there too.

Not even a little bit contained here. Mardi Gras spread it statewide to crawfish boils and there’s still big testing shortages in a lot of places.

I don't know anyone with the China virus either but I live right smack in the middle of the Colville Indian reservation. This is the last place people want to travel to so it should help with the number of cases we would see here.

This will be rare when it is all said and done.....some forecasts saying about 60% of the population will get the virus. That's not counting the people who will get it and never know it....the things that will be rare though is having someone in your immediate family DIE of the virus because it is not going to be a large % of the population...many will get it, far fewer will die thankfully. That's not discounting any death because there is no doubt of the impact that will have on the immediate family but its impact on the population in general is far less severe.

I live in Metairie and know 12 including my 72yr old Aunt who just beat Cancer and has a Rare Lung Disorder. They gave her the Hydroxochloroquine early and they are supposed to be releasing her tomorrow. They thought she hours away from having to be intubated a week ago. My takeaway is if you are trying to pretend this disease isn't real or serious you are wrong. It's extremely infectious and if you have underlying conditions it's very dangerous. However, 99.9999% of the people with no underlying conditions under the age of 60 are beating it or having mild to no symptoms and a lot of older people with underlying conditions are beating it as well. The truth lies in the middle, you can both admit this is a very serious situation that we don't currently have the capacity to deal with at its height and also not go completely insane and think we should shutdown the world for 3-6 months. My wife works with 4 ppl who have gotten it and all of them have been fine without even being close to being admitted to a hospital.

I disagree strongly. It either is or it isn't a world-shattering disaster that requires shutting our entire country down. And it isn't.

When we say it will be worse in the coming weeks, does that assume the persons already have it and will need doctors or does that assume they will get it in a week?

Because if we’ve shut everything down, why is it growing? Is it whole families getting it? It’s almost like this shite just magically appears.

If we are saying, everyone already has it, that is a different story, but I’m just not sure where these projections come from. You have Wash and NY, which one you taking...hopefully not NY, that would be a dumb arse location to project on everyone else

I know two. One had bad fever for a few days and recovered. He is in his late 40's. I know another one in the hospital on a vent right now. She's a healthy 72-year-old and she's making some progress.

You already know this, but you are an idiot that clearly doesn’t understand nuance or rational thought.
