As for the specific conclusions he has reached at this particular time, as a critical thinker his views and outlook will constantly evolve.

Unfortunately, this is a common story.
I agree with other posters- if he thinks socialism is so great, cut him off and let him find socialist solutions.

He was never a conservative. He just conforms and adopts the ideas of whoever he's around, be it you or the snot noses at school. It takes experience and an honest study of history to be a true conservative/capitalist. It's also important for young people to be able to differentiate between true capitalism and the crony capitalist system we currently enjoy. All of the problems that they identify are solved by less government, not more.
