Damn. So psoriasis folks would fall in that group I think. Lots of those out there.

That's exactly what I first thought too when reading this.

A healthcare worker gets exposed to Ebola when he is splattered with blood from an infected patient. He immediately strips, showers, decontaminates and manages to avoid infection.

Yeah "exposed" just means the you have come in contact with the virus, not that you have actually contracted the virus.

What are the symptoms?

Are they flu-like?

ETA: just did a quick google search and here's an article from The Atlantic:

There is a trial vaccine being used, but one for public use is approx a year out.

Also, China produces NINTETY SEVEN % of our antibiotics; a ton of flu induced, pneumonia is fought with antibiotics. I don't know how long it takes for antibiotic production mechanisms to get up and running here in our Nation...but they had better be on it.

ANY nation-state that off-loads 97 percent of production of needed anti-biotics to an enemy nation-state has a "death wish."

The USA is doomed, because it constantly does suicidal stuff like this.

At what point do we accept that this virus is here to spread and deal with the consequences? It will be tough on the elderly but looks to be pretty minimal to younger or healthy individuals. The greater concern in my mind is the dramatic economic impact from people panicking.

Generally, it’s a better than 50% chance of being in close proximity with a carrier or their potentially-infected items/surfaces in normal day-to-day life.

Based on a lot of respondents in this thread, I would say there’s a lot of educating that needs to take place before it’s taken seriously.

The fact that folks seem to think “muh flu” (influenza) is a single pathogen is troubling by itself.

cause.

Here you have populations of THOUSANDS with shite for immune systems, who are in close proximity to one another, who always feel "a little under the weather" and who share lots of things (clothes, furniture, needles, etc). The areas where they are thickest (read: areas where people are paid to clean human feces off the sidewalks) have the potential to be a worst-case scenario for COVID-19.

You may be mistaken. Sure, some of the homeless who are already deathly sick with hepatitis and other communicable diseases could suffer greatly if they contract COVID-19 but I think a lot of homeless/street folks are more hardy than many people who have much better living conditions.

reported from china, I really hope this is the case but lets see if this trend persists as the virus spreads to more media open countries.

The people freaking out about this are doing nothing but fearmongering. There have been 59 cases in the US, 42 of those are from the cruise ship in Japan with 0 deaths and multiple recoveries. Anyone pushing that this is some terrible virus need to shut up and quit trying to scare people.
