EU was withholding 20 million Euros of HUNGARY'S money already (it's "share" for being a member) and that doesn't even take into account the costs of the escape clause.

Keep in mind, Hungary has been a welfare state for the EU, they get more back than they pay in. To get that government cheese they have to follow the rules. If they don't want to follow the rules, they can leave, just invoke Art. 50. They never did because they wanted to continue to be a taker, the EU has been very good for them financially. They wanted the welfare but didn't want to follow the rules. They finally got called on it. Magyar campaign on doing the things that got them back on the dole, Hungarians liked the idea.

Or maybe he was full of shite with his posturing. A bill was tabled and the question could finally be decided. Orban was originally pro-EU before Hungary joined. Odd how that pattern remains consistent across these 'euro-sceptic' parties.

They aren't going to leave.

Yeah bud, governments, including the US, are more concerned with cratering demographics than they are about anything else. If no government can engineer an actual solution to stabilize birth rates, it isn't going to matter in 50 years.

No not really. European demographics are going to crater without migration. Orban, to his credit, did try a strategy of giving people money directly in order to encourage larger families (through a low-interest loan) but that was not ultimately successful in raising the birth rate.

That said, the economic benefits of migration, in a situation where you have cratering demographics, isn't to suggest there might be issues socially. But again, governments generally don't care. Why would they?

Wow. Where has importing hordes of third world Muslims worked out well?

If they import Muslims for this, it still won't matter in 50 years.

Yes, I am sure a migrant is going to aim for Hungary, with one of the weaker economies in the EU, rather than Western Europe, which wants workers.

First, the EU is going to force these animals into Hungary. It will saddle them with their “fair share.” Second, a huge portion of these invaders don’t even work. Don’t be naive.

These two things are not compatible.

They can ask for an exemption. The European Commission granted six countries an exemption for various reasons this past year, and 11 in total are eligible for potential relief. The issue is that Hungary has lost population in the last two decades and the number of deaths is now double the number of births. That is not a sustainable situation for any modern nation.

Like I said, they need workers. EU countries have had work permit agreements with several countries for the past 60 years. And like I said, governments are not really moved by potential social issues. Take it up with them.

What do you want me to tell you? That governments worldwide are sensitive to this to the degree that they aren't going to take in migrants? Time and again, they have shown that they just aren't meaningfully moved by the migration issue when the primary issue is the cratering demographics. Look at the UK, where the anti-EU group used the migration issue to help drive the UK out of the EU, yet in 2023, the UK took in more than 1 million immigrants. The amount of non-EU went through the roof after Brexit finished, contrary to what the anti-EU side said in the lead up to the referendum. This was under a party, the Tories, which had a broad mandate to deal with migration and instead they increased it.

Again, the groups in power will always take advantage of the naivety of 'nativist' and other anti-migration groups to do what they want regardless.

If ONLY there were some examples to draw from, to compare side by side, and see what happens when massive numbers of people not from a land or sharing any cultural values shows up and DOESN'T add to the society...

England
France
Germany
Sweden
Canada
... Michigan.

If only there were evidence that this doesn't work out the way you think it does.... Like the UK spending more on welfare alone than they collected in total tax receipts. For sure not due to "refugees" right?

Great, but again, why are you telling me? I'm saying that time and again, governments have shown they care about one thing, their demographic situation, than they do about potential issues with migration. The UK and France still bring in lots of migrants despite their native populations disliking it. Take it up with them.
