If they take the internet down all manner of stuff will break.
If they hack infrastructure they could destroy some of it.
If they corrupt financial records the world would descend into chaos instantly.
You may be worth 7 figures but I bet it isn’t sitting in your safe. If it’s not in your safe they could make it disappear.

Physically kill us?
I don't fear being killed at the current time but that could come later.
What concerns me is criminal types with access to AI doing nefarious shite with businesses connected to the internet, like financial and banking institutions. I could see some bad shite potentially happening if some criminals with a rogue AI managed to evaporate a buncha financial and banking records/databases. Would the nation deal with that scenario and get through it? Probably but the public panic and chaos could be really bad.

Human civilizations have always been weary of other human civilizations that are perceived to be stronger. Because most human civilizations know what they would do if they were the stronger ones. Whether it's primitive tribes from Africa or advanced societies in Europe.. the strong prey on the weak. If you are weak then whether or not you get attacked depends on the mood of the strong.
The potential of ai is grand. The countries that are perceived to be the strongest haven't been made to feel weary in many years. The potential of ai is making them feel that way. It's putting us in the perceived weak position and makes us afraid that our safety will depend solely on the mood of the ai. If the ai is a dick we run the risk of being controlled or destroyed. Ai could also be benevolent but that seems unlikely because it would have looked throughout the history of human civilization and realize that being a dick is the normal approach.

Whatever is teed up to happen is gonna get immediately blamed on AI. That's clear to us now.
Same as when they had pinned 9-11 on bin Laden by the evening of 9-11. They'll be an immediate consensus that whatever bad thing that happened was caused by AI.

Just imagine the internal fight hate tribalism that would happen with out internet or power.
