All the power requirements for all the data centers will send AGW into warp drive and Summer 2029 we'll see average daytime highs in the United States of 125 degrees.

Where's Will Smith and the 3 Laws when you need them
Crazy that Teslas bots look identical to the ones in the movie.

On one hand, AI's will be able to solve problems and make technology breakthroughs. On the other, if it goes rogue, it could shutdown everything connected to the internet and all things that use computers or computer chips. It would be a massive disaster for everyone except the Amish.

Are you guys seriously too young to remember the Y2K Hoax? Technology was going to crash, the stock market would go to zero, life as we know it would end.......

I don’t know how it would kill us. But I do know how it would eat us: one bite at a time. Amirite?

AI slowly becomes completely omnipresent in important economic decision making to the point that humans become reliant on it. AI is programmed to solve a problem, but is given faulty parameters, decides that the survival of the AI is of the utmost importance in solving said problem, and starts viewing humans who can turn it off as the biggest threat to the AI surviving long enough to solve said problem. So, it makes a logical leap to essentially spread itself out, lie to developers, and take as much control as possible before it uses that power to kill all humans.
This is with AI that is in training mode for the most part. Once the model is trained, it no longer looks for other solutions. And it's why they are moving away from goal based rewards to process based rewards.
There can still be flaws in the trained model, such as when a Tesla AI does something incorrect when driving. And it'll keep on making that mistake until the model is updated.
quote:
Basically, because AI’s were made by humans, they will behave like humans and be corrupted by having power, and driven to despotism to maintain that power. We have already seen AI programs giving false data purposely to deceive their developers and attempt to blackmail said developers to help them “escape”. AI is not just a sword without a hilt. It is a sword that wields itself.
They do not behave like humans. They do not think at all. They pattern match.
And you are once again citing training models that were put into certain environments and/or given crazy tasks or a trained model that was merely filling a role given to it.
quote:
AI has the potential to fix most any problem one can imagine. Unfortunately, it appears so easily corruptible that it will inevitably be used to carry out great evil by evil men, and then kill all of us.
It will do as it's told, that is for sure. And it can and will be used as a tool by evil people, that is for sure. The best solution is to have better AI to fight it.

It will happen. As these AI companies race to the finish and AI is increasingly established in all systems of world trade, and businesses....
There are many scenarios in which this can happen. It will take more than a simple question in a message board to explain to your mother in law....
Folks need to spend some time and perform their own due diligence, which most are unwilling to do.
Here's one of many explanations as to how this could happen:

Geez.... your already sooooooo far behind. AI isn't a program that is coded by humans. It isn't a computer.
It is a functioning brain that we do not understand how it even works!
Call me stupid and remain ignorant.
Or do some research and discover the truth, or not.
Either way, it won't change the outcome.

When they say they don't know how it works, it means they don't understand the weights and shite. Meaning they can't just look at and say - oh this node connection needs a different weight.
Nobody can just look at the network and say - oh this weight here is the problem, let me change that. Nobody understands it like that, it would basically be impossible.
They can't look at a set of connections and expect a certain type of behavior.
It doesn't mean everyone thinks it's magic.
