How, after 20 years, are there so many Talban left?

I don’t quite understand how we didn’t just physically wipe them out over this time period.

It’s a demographic, as much as anything.
These are generally young and devout Pashtuns, and they want to create a Pashtun led emirate.
Ideas are very durable too.
Franco won the civil war and kept the Communists under lock and key for decades. But as soon as he died, the Communists re-emerged, and went right back to dismantling Spain. In the end, he just slowed them down.

According to the fractured groups that opposed the Afghan government and a lot of foreign fighters united under the Taliban over the last two years. At least that is what the Canadians say.

They would just run into Pakistan and hide, and we didn't do anything about it. We should have told the Pakis to frick off and we should have actually stuck to what W said, that we would "not distinguish between terrorists and those who harbor them."
But we didn't, and they just hung out in Pakistan and waited for us to withdraw.

Only way you stop that is to kill everyone.

Because we were too busy building roads and schools and water treatment plants and shite instead of fighting a shooting war with the terrorists.
That's why.

Jug Ears dropped enough hellfire missiles on their fathers. All these children have come of age now. Do you blame them?

Because they don't give a damned about Starbucks, sports, entertainment, fashion, facebook, twitter..........
They have one goal and singular vision. Right or wrong.

probably just hid by blending in just waiting for their opportunity

they were released from GTMO and prisons in Afghanistan. Our CIA had a mini GTMO prison site within Afghanistan.

I’m sure a lot of their citizens were Taliban members as well and were just waiting on us to leave. Can’t tell who’s a normal Afghan citizen and who’s a terrorist. They all look the same

Because the locals refused to help us root them all out. They spent their last 20 years hiding in caves and fricking goats. Every village had a cousin or a brother in the Taliban so they would refuse to cooperate with us.
Also, every time we killed one, two more were radicalized by their shitty religion and joined the Taliban.
frick them. I say stop doing air pick-ups and let them sort themselves out.

They are like children and always want to be on the winning team. If their team, which US was training, was losing the game, then the players simply switch sides shouting Allah Akbar.

Occupation creates insurgency. At least in every history book I’ve ever read
