The House for the first time Wednesday approved a war powers resolution that would halt the U.S. military action against Iran, defying President Donald Trump as a handful of Republicans joined with Democrats

My disdain grows daily.

“It is time for the president to do the right thing,” he said. “The people are tired of suffering because of his war of choice — suffering at the gas pump, suffering at the supermarkets.”

You wont support your nations actions because of that? What a simpleton view.

Those Republicans also need to lose their jobs this November.

Primary season is over. Attacking those republicans would give control of the House to democrats, which means turning the dial on Trump persecution way up. There is a reason those republicans waited until now.

And another: warfare is slightly different from what it was 170 years.

Not worth the paper it is written on or the air that was breathed discussing it.
President will just veto. TDS on full display in congress.

So what emergency threat to the US gave the president the right to use our military forces?
This is a fair question that has been asked repeatedly. What qualifies as immediate or imminent? Does an on-going threat meet this criteria? (This is a common answer)

Abraham Lincoln fought a 4 year war with neither a declaration nor permission from Congress.

Misleading as hell.

If the south was not a foreign nation (as the Lincoln claimed) then the North could not declare war on them. If they did, that would have given the Confederacy's claims legitimacy as a separate sovereign entity.

Furthermore, Congress, while not declaring war for the reasons above, ratified all his actions such as passing the Conscription Acts to draft soldiers and approved his budgets that funded the war.

I wouldn’t really call it misleading, I’d call it flat out wrong (for the reasons you set out in your post).

Article 1, Section 8.

Can you quote it for me?

I guess I could, but why? I've told you twice now where to get the answer. This time specifically.

I have to copy and paste it for you too?

Trump may be breathing a sigh of relief that he could be forced to get out of this war while saving face. Who knows? Maybe he instructed Congress to pass the resolution for that reason.

No. I was a traitorous underhanded move to undermine negotiations. The Dems want this conflict to escalate and the RINOs have TDS.

This does not outline how Congress can legislate limits on executive military action or interfere with orders from the CIC.

I’m surprised you latched onto this.

A little hyperbolic, yes?
quote:

underhanded move to undermine negotiations
A case could be made for underhanded or an attempt to embarrass but it shouldn’t tangibly affect negotiations. Sides either agree or disagree according to their leverage or lack thereof.
quote:

The Dems want this conflict to escalate
They will spin it as a win either way but there is also a significant group on the right calling for escalation as they see negotiations as futile.

Whatever the case, once a war has begun the President has authority/discretion to prosecute it despite non-binding or symbolic resolutions.

Congress passing a bill to stop the president from waging war . . . that can be vetoed by the President.

Just as the Constitution intended.

The South had as much right to declare itself an independent sovereign nation as the colonies did in the Declaration of Independence.

Congress is currently funding all military forces being used against Iran so using your methodology, it’s ratified.
