I agree with demolishing the doe. On paper, it's a huge win. But, state government education departments are licking their chops to hire new people ans start new programs that will continue to waste the more efficiently distributed funds. That's just how government works, Federal state, or local. It's all the same crap. Government can't help itself in expanding its role in trying to be everything to the delinquents.

California takes the most money to deal with homeless.

I tell them, good luck without the rest of us. They would fold without the other states.

Good luck without the fed to take care of illegal aliens. No more social security fraud for you.

Also looking at the money grants dispersed to states from the DOE, California receives the most by a long shot.

Oh damn, and California receives an astronomical amount of money for the state migrant education program. Several states receive $0 in funding for that.

So, frick California.

I’m surprised it isn’t a larger percentage.

About as bad as the DOE.

Least we won't be paying DOE salaries anymore.

it’s true. The bottom 25% and the disciplinary issue kids need to be pulled from the classroom and put in an alternative track starting in 6th grade. Not separate classrooms. Separate school entirely. One focused on life skills, communication skills, financial literacy, and by high school directed into some sort of career pathway.

Believe it or not California in the 80’s used to do this, I doubt that’s the case now

It’s easier to demand change in your state and let California and NY do whatever they want.

Take Louisiana for example. There has been an effort to really get the kids reading in this state. It’s working. They didn’t need the feds to tell them that. They needed the people in state to put in the work to achieve that. It doesn’t matter where the money comes from.

The Ms income tax cut will be made up with a .09 per galllon gas tax. I’m perfectly fine with that tax. It’s being fought because it “effects” people of color by adding to fuel cost. Well get a damn job and stop riding around all day.

When I left each school had a principal and 3 vps.

My son's JR high has five A.P.s in addition to the principal. One for each grade, another for "student support," and another for "Programs." Every one of them has their own secretary.

There are two attendance clerks (one A-L, one M-Z). There is a counselor for each grade, but also a "student support counselor/CBE." All the counselors share a secretary.

There are four band/orchestra teachers, two for family and consumer science, and ONE for CATE/Engineering/PAAVTC.

A huge reason the federal government has so much power and control over the states, and spends an astronomical amount of taxpayer money (and more) every year, is that they’ve set up a dependent situation from the states.

Money to maintain roads, for schools, for any number of “equality” programs, and much more are funded by the federal government, and the states line up at the tit.

That gives the federal government leverage over the states.

We’re no longer a union of states. We’re ruled by a central authority and divided into federal districts. The states have whatever autonomy the federal government allows.

No. The states will receive the funds without them being laundered by the DOE.

The trolls are out on the school group pages ranting about this. It never fails, though... they either fall into a specific demographic group, or a click of their profile reveals they are a fricking implant from a liberal cesspool.

I am so sick of people fleeing their shitholes, moving to areas with strong schools and business... and then proceeding to vote like assholes.

I am also sick of a demographic that has been stuck running in place for decades acting like everything is just great the way it is, refusing to even consider a change. Muh programs!

The real question is why did the DOE need 2,000 employees to dole out the money?

I think a retired/dead senator from Oklahoma said that if he had a nickel for every time someone walked into his office complaining about how government needed to be cut, everything except, of course "their program," he'd be filthy rich.

Maybe now we will go from 120+ school districts to 20 or so. So much waste in administration. That's where you find that 20%!

You may not like this in 5 years

Live in North Ms and we will be fine. Stoping this state tax will bring more industries in.
We can vote our local politicians out, However it’s hard to get DC bureaucrats out of office

For the umpteenth time (maybe instead of reading this, yell at yourselves so it's clear)

None of the federal funding to schools is going away. It's just the beaurocracy aspects.

LA and MS are behind AL in quite a few categories.
