I wish. It is called making the tough choices and being a leader.

You should read some stats on % of black kids that get federal grants and loans to go to college, that never graduate. Less than 1%. It is ALMOST like they use the free money to go have fun for a few years and try to stay in school for as long as possible without any progress towards a degree. ALMOST like they know how to play the system. LOL

Sadly though, in some manner, it will still be available to them....so no, Trump isn't killing it lib.

The federal government is just cutting out the middleman. States will still receive their funding, and they will have more of it to spend, as they won't have to allocate resources to comply with DOE regulations and memos.

Remember all of the education budget is your tax money. it does not change when it goes up to DC gets wasted and half of it returns to your state.
Same with "Federal Funds" for roads. It is just an additional gas tax that goes to DC and then states have to jump through hoops to get it back.

Amish elementary school kids are taught by JHS and HS girls. They test among the top of the state. No educrats are involved.

This is so stupid and ridiculous. If anything, the states will receive MORE MONEY than before without the federal bureaucracy attaching strings and paying for themselves extravagant salaries and lifestyle

Is this just going to be gone now? Mississippi is getting rid of income tax this year. (And good riddance, nothing is more corrupt the Mississippi Department of Revenue)

A lot of this is due to federal mandates on students with disabilities act and all the Titles. Is Trump getting rid of that too?

Are they going to replace this with state grants? I am totally cool with it if that’s the situation, but seriously we can’t get much dumber in these states

You don't understand. The federal disbursements are going nowhere because of this very fact that the many of the supposed rugged individualist, fiscally responsible red states are the most dependent on the federal government teat. If there is any savings coming from this it will mostly be a shell game of passing more administrative overhead to the states when it gets cut from the federal system. Possibly no real savings at all and possibly more expensive since there will be more administrative function duplication amongst the states, districts, and territories.

The point of culling the Department of Education was not about saving money, it was about allowing red states to rollback the clock on social liberalism they feel is forced on them by taking the federal government money they need to operate public schooling that their constituents expect lest they revolt.

Pretty much true, everyone hates California and Washington but they basically pay for these states.

But if you look at literacy rates of California and Washington those states have kids just as unprepared as the rural ones.

There is a huge disconnect and what we are doing now isnt working. Parents are the reason most kids are ignorant. They dont expect their kids to do well, just stay in school, and when you are 18 you can get on welfare.

I dont know how to fix it but maybe incentivize the parents if the kids do well.
