Rebuilding plans were thwarted after Katrina so New Orleans could be “what it’s supposed to be”. Look at the city now.

yes

in the past, all the set aside/quota/"fairness" programs have come crashing into one inevitable roadblock, and that is the lack of competence endemic in the black community of new orleans. because past leadership has either been black themselves or uninterested in actual solutions, they proceeded anyway. and now we are here.

moreno is competent and intelligent. she grew up in a world that works and rewards effort and talent and better ideas. like i said before i am highly optimistic

Good lord what a fricking a-hole

here's the full quote

quote:

"We're going to make sure that New Orleans is the New Orleans it's supposed to be," he said.

Thomas did not identify what New Orleans is "supposed to be" but appeared to reference the need to maintain the city's racial demographics.
"This city is too important for us to lose it, for us to watch it be diluted," said Thomas, who paused and added: "You got that?"

Moreno is White and Hispanic and received broad backing from White political and business leaders but also drew support from many of New Orleans' most influential Black political and community leaders — like former Congressman Cedric Richmond and District Attorney Jason Williams, but also church pastor Tyrone Smith and 8th Ward Black Seminoles Chief Kenny Young.

"They cannot come to us in sheep's clothing anymore. They can't come to us asking for our unfiltered, undying support anymore. They can't lie to us anymore," said Thomas, before singing a line from the O'Jays popular R&B song "Back Stabbers."

So basically more doomed the fail. None of this will save people with means from continuing to abandon the city. Good luck.

The people with the means to leave supported Helena’s election. She’s extremely popular uptown, Lakeview, Mid-city, etc.

This board has whiffed constantly on takes related to the election.

Helena and I don’t agree on much politically, but I do support her and think she will represent the city well. She’s a progressive but also understands the need to have a functioning city where people are safe and can have jobs.

People began leaving New Orleans after 1960. The racial balance is almost unchanged since before 1960. The population in NOLA was at its height in 1960.

65% - black who are all Dem. Funny because they aren't liberal. Black Dems couldn't care less about Trans rights or gay mairraige 25% - wanna be hipsters from the North East that want to claim New Orleans and French heritage, but simply aren't who live in the Bywater district and some uptown, and they get super mad when you tell them you'll never be true New Orleans if you're not from the state 10% - who are conservative in New Orleans typically live in Uptown and Lakeview
Orleans parish is at most 59% black and almost 20% of OP voters voted for Trump

This is where I am.

She is going to do things I HATE at times. She is going to say things I hate.

But she is also going to do some good things and come across as respectable which is about as much as we can hope for.

this is what cantrell is doing on her way out
quote:

Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s administration has issued a new call for a sanitation provider in the French Quarter and Downtown Development District, potentially reviving a controversy that has engulfed City Hall for more than a year as New Orleans transitions to a new mayoral administration. The new “request for proposals,” released on Oct. 10, calls for a six-month service term to begin on Dec. 23, when an existing one-year emergency contract with IV Waste expires. The start date is three weeks before the inauguration of Mayor-Elect Helena Moreno, who avoided a runoff with an outright victory in the Oct. 11 primary election.
quote:

The term is unusually short for a contract that isn’t awarded on a low-bid emergency basis. Council President JP Morrell called it “absolutely bizarre” that Cantrell is opening a new solicitation, instead of granting a month-to-month extension of the existing emergency contract during the mayoral transition. The Moreno administration will need to issue a new solicitation next year no matter what, either for a long-term contract or another emergency one while litigation over a controversial deal for Henry Consulting plays out. “It appears, because there's no logical reason to do a six-month RFP, that this is being done out of spite,” Morrell said.

Bunchie, what she has to do transcends political lines. But I don’t really believe a word that she says. She was just the lesser of 3 evils.

That said, the barometer is so low. Just show consistent engagement and most constituents will be happy.

Yeah that is all accurate.

The rock bottom she is inheriting, all she has to do is appear to be working hard, be very visible, answer questions, etc

And she's already a rock star

here come the payoffs

Payoffs have been camped out in the city for over 300 years.

It's funny seeing posters on here thinking anyone but a Democrat could win the race after all the Republicans moved out decades ago.

New orleans white population is ticking upwards toward 50%. Yes it’s the liberal whites moving in and gentrifying but they don’t bring guns with them so that’s a positive. Moreno is the best choice for mayor in decades. Though she’s liberal she has the ears of conservatives, businesses and news people. She’s actually aware of the specific problems. And she’s inheriting a $100 million dollar deficit which will tie up any mayors hands for years. I’m happy she won as the best case scenario

Wrong. They started out solidly Republican until the Calvin Coolidge administration sent them en masse to the Democrats.

It's like people don't realize that the Democrat South left the Union over the election of a Republican to the US presidency.

This should be the only agenda worth running on:

1. Improve infrastructure
2. Reduce crime
3. Promote business growth and investment in the city
4. Not be a corrupt piece of shite

The rest is all pie in the sky horse shite that nobody cares about

Hilarious the post has that many votes for something that she didn't even say. Nor was even accused of saying it.

The actual story is that somehow a Moreno supporter inadvertently sent a lawyer and Duplessis a email that accused someone in the Duplessis campaign of using the term.

Moreno wasn't on the email nor accused Duplessis of saying it.
