Not really. I'm an Xer and the boomers are already trying to raid my retirement. Next thing you'll know they will want access to my 401K and then tax my non earning assets.

I'm 62 and I'd be for raising the retirement age because a) it's overdue, and b) I have kids and I'd rather not have big gov types like you and jjdoc crater what little chance their generation has of fixing this shite.

How a bout keep your promises and stop over spending on other budget items?

I am not the one advocating for big gov't spending. You are.

You're okay with cutting spending, as long as it's not a program that impacts your retirement. What's funny is you mention boomers in a negative way, when you're the one that sounds like a boomer.

Cut it all.

more money coming out is the smaller government argument.

JFC - how can you be over the age of, well, about 12, and make this argument?

That's a point of discussion/negotiation. A term of the plan.

So is it fair to say that you support raising the retirement age for SS and medicare, as long as those affected have an adequate heads-up?

No. Not adequate. As in, If you have paid in, nothing changes.

It is.. "Hey, those of you who are paying in. Teach your kids that as of this date, (when they become of working age) will NOT pay in and will get nothing.

The idea of raising the retirement age slooooowly so as to not burden those nearing retirement is BS?

Yes. That wasn't what was promised.

How is it dishonest for me to say that to my ears, you sound like a big government type?

- Big Gov... We take the money with a promise... then we opt out.. something you were not allowed to do.

It's not me supporting big gov nor a communist idea.

Your boy DT sure did. Interesting you now have a problem with it.

Again, your issue is with the Constitution. Article 1 sec 8.

We pay taxes for reasons. When the STATES shut down and refused to allow workers to work, returning their taxes is covered.

I have no issues with that until the states reopened.

Got it. So Trump isn’t a leader who will make the hard decisions to fix what needs to be fixed. He’s a politician who simply goes with the crowd. The swamp in other words

This is the answer but in the meantime the way to destroy it is to bleed it dry or until Federal Reserve notes have no value.

Unfortunately that won't happen because the demographics will change in the next 10-15 years to keep the Ponzi-like scheme going.

How do you fix Social Security? Let us know Gumbo-genius. Trump is the coward here.

The simple math equation fix is to raise the age and to slow the rate of growth.

Trump's fix will be to remove the cap and eliminate SS payments to those with a net worth of 5 million or more. Trump's SS position is in fact no different from the Democrat position.

So there you go. Progressive Trump. This will be a huge tax increase to those making above the cap.

Trump's Agenda 47. Pure progressivism. "Freedom cities and baby bonuses". Bigger government...ye fricking haw. Tariffs on all imported goods. Pure Keynesian. No harm can come from that. Ye fricking haw.

Yes. I do not like the Gov stealing from me. Who knew that the very thought of having Gov steal from me and not liking it would some how be considered "BIG GOV" backing.

WOW!

It's so difficult arguing about SS and Medicare when we are under the Federal Reserve system that bails out all fiscal shortfalls.

Your argument would make total sense pre December 23, 1913. Now it doesn't really matter.

The government fricked it up by making promises it failed to keep.

The government didn’t promise you that you’d get everything you paid in. If you died the day after you retired the government never promised you that your kids would get the remainder of what you paid. And if you lived to be a hundred and end up getting far more than you paid, the government never promised they would cut you off.

Yes. That wasn't what was promised.

What was promised was people near/above the age of life expectancy would have social security to fall back on.

If social security delivered what was originally promised, the age of eligibility would be about 75.

Wait.

You and jjdoc are typing out all sorts of shite about how you don't want any changes to social security, that it would be unfair for you to have to wait a year to start claiming benefits, and then out of the other side of your mouth you're arguing that you want the whole program to be canceled?

What?

First of all, there is a built in mechanism. Nobody really talks about it.

Second, the simple way is the lazy way. Many ways to fix it. But it means destroying the GOPE. NEOCONS love to spend on those wars.

It's a non starter to go back on what was promised. period.

It's not going to work either... but you can keep trying.

By law, the government has taken money out of every paycheck I own and every dime I’ve earned as a business owner.

That money belongs to me. The government is obligated to use it for my health insurance when I’m old and for a benefit when I turn 65.

When you make a contract with another person, that’s called a promise. When the government passes a law, that’s called a promise.

I fulfilled my end of the bargain. The government spent my money on foreign wars, illegal aliens having babies and gender affirming care in Pakistan.
