This is a terrible awful thing. Disgusting.
But it seems like it could have happened at any day and any time because of the monsters on those streets. I don't see a Knicks game connection apart from "this is why he happened to be on the streets that night, he had been at a bar". But that does not seem to be why this happened there was no "yo a-hole in the Knicks shirt come here boom boom" element. It seems to just be your typical inner city killing.
Terrible, tragic and I am not minimizing it. Just saying NBA game seems tangential to the tragedy.

One of the two BLACK thugs came by, snatched his phone. The two BLACK thugs took off running and Billy pursued. The BLACK WITH with the phone would later throw the phone while his BLACK partner stop, turned, and shot Billy.
The phone was recovered. So over someone else's, phone they were willing to commit murder.
