There is no point in over-building road infrastructure there because the environment will destroy it as quickly as you can build it.

This x100. The interior of Greenland is largely below sea level but for the ice sheet. It would be a very large inland sea without the ice. The habitable areas and practically developable areas are along the SW and Eastern coasts. There isn’t going to be much connection between the two either. It’s easier to just ship or fly than build rail or roads on land that doesn’t exist above water level (or on an ice sheet)

From what I've read, the locals love some welfare.

The US probably built those roads during WWII.

We have biaxial and triaxial geogrids to build roads that don’t sink into the mud. Only 100 miles of road? There is something rotten in Denmark.

Northern Alaska doesn’t have paved roads due to permafrost. We have owned that for a long time.

There are appx 45,000 in Alexandria LA. It has 750 miles of paved roads plus a few hundred more in gravel.

I would think paved roads would be a maintenance nightmare with those freeze thaw cycles.

I don’t think they thaw a lot.

A few hundred miles of paved asphalt versus access to rich natural resources and rare earth minerals?

I’d call that a win.

American companies go outside of our borders all the time for business. We don’t have to own Greenland to do business there.

Ask those American companies if they would rather own or have the rights to those minerals or buy them.
