Progressive oyster farmer Graham Platner, whose insurgent U.S. Senate campaign has weathered scandals and ended Gov. Janet Mills’ political career, will face Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in November after winning his Tuesday primary.

Platner had 77.7% of votes to 16.7% for Mills, who remained on the ballot despite suspending her campaign in April, when the Bangor Daily News and Decision Desk HQ, its election results partner, called the race at 9:07 p.m. Former government official and 2024 U.S. Senate nominee David Costello received 5.6%.

Platner led in polls for months and became the presumptive nominee after Mills suspended her bid, citing a lack of cash after Platner built up early enthusiasm and fundraising last summer. His victory Tuesday marked a test of his grassroots support and a show of strength for a political newcomer plagued by controversies while going on the offensive against a powerful five-term incumbent in one of the country’s biggest races.

If there are more democrats than republicans in Maine, I guess he wins. Not sure about what an independent would think.

There needs to be some Spencer Pratt style ads against him.

“He’s got the Reich stuff… baby!”

I think Susan Collins is toast.

There is a motivated, anti establishment base on both sides of the political spectrum and it’s making its presence repeatedly known.

We’ll see if Maine is the exception but it seems like the wrong time to be Susan Collins.

Gestapo Graham. That would be his nickname in every add I ran if I were any PAC or SC running adds against him.

I’m not quite seeing the extreme trend to which you refer that would possibly implicate Maine as being “the exception.” What trend is it that would constitute a Collins win as an “exception?”

Time to rewatch A Face In The Crowd with Andy Griffith directed by the great Elia Kazan. That is basically what this Platner guy is,

If I were running the Republican Party I would make this guy the National face of the Dems. Any state that has a high Jewish population I would run add about how Dems supports a real Nazi. I may lose but I would make Jewish voters support a nazi too by voting Democrat.

That is quite the contest - which of the following should Republicans make the face of the Dem party?

1. Maine’s favorite Nazi
2. New York’s favorite retard
3. Minnesota’s favorite brother fricking fraudster

Who else would be in the running?

That was 80 years ago. Jews nowadays don't care. New Yorkers are electing Muslims left and right 25 years after 9/11.

I would stick with Gestapo Graham. Anyone with at least one brain cell still working can see the instant hypocrisy. Donald Trump is a nazi for deporting criminal illegals. We must elect a guy with a Nazi tattoo though and is violent with woman so we can take power and stop Trump. Anyone that has just a small amount of intelligence left will not hear that argument and fit that square peg in a round hole.
