To be fair, Louisiana has gottten about 70k off the rolls since last year so there is progress.

And I think about half of SNAP in LA are kids the current deadbeat count isn't quite that high.

One way or another, we’re all going to fork over the money anyway.

I’d bet my last dollar that not a single person in this COUNTRY goes a single day without their “benefits” before this is said and done.

None of our politicians will hold the line.

FWIW

For additional context, a 2023 USDA report shows the age breakdown of SNAP recipients nationally:
Children: About 39% of all participants.
Children under 5: About 11% of participants.
School-aged children: About 28% of participants.
Adults (age 18–59): 42% of participants.
Elderly (age 60+): 19% of participants

According to Gemini, LA data by age isnt publicly available in detail in LA but

Based on data from the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) for June 2024:
Children (under age 18): 45% of recipients.
In parishes with the highest number of recipients, such as East Baton Rouge and Orleans, children make up nearly half of the beneficiaries.
Adults: 55% of recipients.
Households with children: In 2023, 28.6% of Louisiana households with children participated in SNAP.
Households without children: In 2023, 12.7% of Louisiana households without children participated in SNAP.
Single-female parent households: 52.7% of these households participated in SNAP in 2023.
Married-couple households: 4.8% of these households without children under 18 participated in SNAP in 2023.

Wow, we are a state of 4.5 M. That is theft.

That’s 17%. 11% of the US lives in poverty, it’s not that surprising that there are more poor people that live in Louisiana given the socioeconomic conditions.

There is a work requirement in LA for 18-54 year olds w/o dependents but its only 80 hours per month

20 hours a week is a joke. I was working 20+ hours a week in 10th grade.

No reason that an able bodied adult shouldn't be required to work a full time job with 35-40 hours a week if they want taxpayer handouts. And before the excuses about young kids start, LA has a childcare assistance program that subsidizes daycare costs for low income families.

He has been an embarrassment almost since day 1.

I wonder how many other states are gonna give coverage to the Fed overlords.

Mr. Governor, this isn’t an emergency and no one will starve. I didn’t vote for this. The SNAP program should be totally eliminated in favor of food pantries for truly destitute people.

Any kind of food assistance program is actually a subsidy to the vast American food industry, to keep it solvent and in business. Besides that... when someone cuts off soft drinks, Coc-Cola and Pepsi, etc., send their lobbyists to make sure it's quietly added back or they donate to a challenger next election... because they don't like being left out of the stimulus package.

At the moment, with American farmers being put in bad positions by the tariff trade war... attacking SNAP and any of that is screwing the system up further.

I don’t care. The entire SNAP program needs to end. The entire program has been plagued by waste, fraud, and abuse for years.

Also, given that most “food” purchased by the SNAP crowd is highly processed carb or corn syrup loaded junk, I think the impact on farmers will be minimal.
