I'd have simply said let kids be kids, don't teach them about sex and sexual identity at that age, save it for later.
The whole 'grooming' thing isn't wrong, but I'm sure if they're that tuned into the whole issue, they'd pounce on that as 'Riiiiight wing hate speech', and that'll be the end of the discussion.

My in laws are liberal as hell and aren’t too fond of me because they think I redpilled my wife. Truth is, she saw through the bullshite and didn’t need any help from me.
Though I know they would never admit it, I know they respect me because I’m a good husband to their daughter and a good dad to their grand kids… it’s just a damn shame that these liberals can’t see the value of family beyond their own sanctimonious virtue signaling.
