Got in trouble with the future in-laws on Facebook

My fiancé (no pics) is a wonderful girl with a level head on her shoulders. Her oldest brother is a good ol baw and leans very right. The rest of her family is far leaning left and live in Fort Lauderdale. Anyway, one of her aunts posted althe pic on Facebook of the state of Florida covered in the word gay and was criticizing the “Dont say Gay” bill
For being hateful and all this other shite.
Now her side of the family does have a few lesbians and folks of that community so I should have seen this coming.
Anyway her brother starts saying it isn’t hateful and is a ridiculous thing to have in school curriculum… I then chime in and say that teaching this in schools and grooming kids of that age is disgusting.
The next 20 replies were a total shitstorm basically calling me out for saying their lifestyle is disgusting. Which wasn’t what I said at all. I simply said that teaching it in schools to 5-8 year olds is.
I’m in the dog house now. Not with my future wife but with the future in-laws and have been branded a homophobe.

I didn’t apologize. I defused by simply restating that I did not consider their lifestyle disgusting but was referring to the idea of teaching it at schools to 5-8 year olds is in fact disgusting.
