This would be the same when the stock market takes a dip, but if you look at a longer period you would see it was worth holding and not freaking out.

You should probably check your year to date data.

Gold on Jan 2 was $4332. it is currently $4150.

That does not equal $1000 year to date.

on 9/30/25 is was $3858.

The high for the year is $5417, but that is not YTD as you imply...

grammy's gold buys $141,00 less stuff this morning than it did last night!

ron paul says in today's uncertain world you should buy gold!

Has nothing to do with inflation. Gold's dollar value has simply gone done this year. As has Silver's.

Nor is it really much of a hedge against normal inflation per se. Example: Inflation increases a little more rapidly usual, and the spot price increases 15% so you decide to sell some gold to a dealer. You will have gotten more USD per ounce, but that USD has less buying power due to inflation. The real value to having gold is for when SHTF - when the dollar totally crashes and hits hyperinflation status.

I’m accumulating …. junior miners are hurting right now since one of their biggest expenses is diesel fuel. Yet the thirst from central banks is unrelenting.

GDXJ has been very, very good to me on several runs over the past 8-9 years. Earlier this year I took profits at $141-$144 ….. and lately I’ve been building another position through DCA at $100 +/- 9%.

It’s currently at $114, so I’m watching for opportunity to add more.

When the global price of diesel drops - and it will - the miners will be running with the bull, IMO.

Yes, in a way it is paper, but GDXJ analysts can focus on the constant chaos in the junior sector way better than I can as an individual.

Long gold, $5k by 26YE …. IMHO

Value determined by weight, supply and demand...toilet paper would be a better hedge against inflation than gold. Assuming dysfunction and collapse of the money system and basic goods and services infrastructure.

Hell, just imagine when AI figures out how to manipulate Molecules into Gold.

The somewhat similar performance between gold and equities is much different than the historical norm. My opinion is that correlation has a lot to do with two factors:

Fiat currencies and manipulation of markets and more widespread distrust in traditional asset classes

and now it's down 20% in one year, gold is seen as a hedge against inflation due to the stability of it's price.

What chart are you looking at? I don't see gold DOWN 20% in 1 one year per your statement.
