re: ‘Going to college ruined my life.’ I have $85K in student loan debt with a useless degree

I dated a girl/woman that used student loans to live on for years. Took just enough classes to maintain her status.
Ended up with a masters at least. But basically the only thing she can do is be a high school counselor.
Current girlfriend graduated with every intention of going to vetinary school. But realized it wasn't for her after working at a vet's one summer. Turned down pretty good opportunities and now works in loans and makes no use of her degree.

That and find one that you know could like instead of hating it.

So associates in OT from a private institution most likely means associates from something like DeVry or some other version of those diploma mills…
Yep, the only possible answer here is "great private school" means "absolute dogshit for-profit diploma mill"
Nothing else makes sense, and it's idiotic/irresponsible to publish a piece like this and not acknowledge that reality.

Meanwhile guys sneak in this country on Monday jump on a construction crew on Tuesday and are making 6 figures in less than 12 months with zero debt.
And they get a free phone
And they get a free phone

It’s probably something like an OT technician or some vague term and a job she could have gotten with on the job training. The schools are a huge part of the problem.

but also the university for having classes like this.
It's a little more complicated. Colleges weren't necessarily supposed to be big business minor leagues or free job training for companies. A shift occurred in society and no one dealt with it.

$85K in student loan debt
I'm wondering how much of her educational costs did she actually pay, because this is a lot of debt for a "useless degree." She clearly isn't a clear thinker. But also, how much skin did she have in the game when she was playing? It sounds like this person was playing entirely with house money.

quote:I don't know what she did but if she didn't go to one of these, then you are correct. But OT Assistant schools have to be approved https://www.otcareerpath.com/assistant/schools They are trained but must work under the oversight of an OT. I suspect she fell victim to some glossy brochure she found at somewhere

I think it is a bullshite story that she made up.
Let's point out the years.
Currently 32
In 2018 professor told her good luck finding a job. So she was 28 working on her associates degree.
Graduated and pandemic hit so 2020 she was 30 getting her associate degree.
Looked for a job for 2 years - get's us to present day.
And now she is goin on 8 years at same job.
Alison is either a liar and one of the dumbest bitches out there.

For only 85K more he could’ve had a bachelors in a useless degree. What an underachiever

A degree in lesbian rain dancing would have been a better choice!
Posted on 4/7/22 at 5:34 pm to NC_Tigah
She paid way too much for that degree.
She could move somewhere in demand for that degree and make over 50k yearly with a lower cost of living.

So rude. Don't you have any compassion?

The person she mentions who is on 100% disability is,doubtless, getting a monthly check that Ms. 2 year degree conveniently doesn't mention.
She says she has medical bills. She or the other person?
Credit card bills? WhoTF would give this person a credit card?

The only solution I am in favor of for folks like this to help them is to allow them to discharge their debt through bankruptcy.
Nah, frick that. They would all do it then.
Are you a bankruptcy lawyer?

$85k, and she doesn't even have a Bachelor's? My wife and I have 3 degrees between us, with less in loans.

my professors told me that by the time my classmates and I graduated, we would likely struggle to get jobs because of changes in the profession
She didn't take that as a clue to change course...?
