When did the field of Occupational Therapy dry up?
I seem to run across them rather frequently.
A lot of people seem to believe that unless a job literally falls out of the sky and into your lap, there are none available. Get out and hustle a bit, and you should be able to find something. Of course, it also seems many put artificial self-imposed limits on things like where they will live and what exactly they will do i their field. You have to be at least somewhat open to things.

But I will never forget back in the beginning of 2018, my professors told me that by the time my classmates and I graduated, we would likely struggle to get jobs because of changes in the profession. Well, they were right
What's funny, is the professors gave them a heads up, they're getting a worthless degree. Ahh frick it. Let's do it anyways. I'm following my dreams of being broke and doing something a 20 year old me thinks I'll enjoy for the rest of my life.

I paid off my wife's $60K in student loans last September. It took 8 years to pay the damn loans off. The loans were worth it though...she's a professional and loves her career and life. She could not practice her profession without the advanced degree. It is what it is.
frick anyone that is begging for forgiveness. A year ago, I wouldn't have supported it and I damn sure don't support it now.

And her mother co-signed. Never, ever would I let my children make this kind of idiotic decision.

How is that even possible? I mean…. How? How the frick do you spend that much for a two year degree?
Did they live in a suite at the Hilton and order room service for all meals while there?

I went to a great college: It was private and costly, but ...
Duke ran us well north of that on a pyb. But obviously you don't go to a >$50K tuition school for an associates degree, certainly not if money is an issue.

The only solution I am in favor of for folks like this to help them is to allow them to discharge their debt through bankruptcy. That would be fair, allowing them to get on with their life while having to pay a significant penalty for doing so. It would also provide disincentive to any private lender giving out money to folks getting degrees they are unlikely to pay back.

Join the military and get it wiped out.

I do actually sympathize. Im in the same age group and we heard nothing but nonstop cheerleader BS from every adult about going to college. I now tell every single HS age kid to not go to college and every undergrad to cut their losses and drop out. College is a scam

So associates in OT from a private institution most likely means associates from something like DeVry or some other version of those diploma mills…
Biggest mistake they made in the student loan crisis isn’t allowing student loans for worthless degrees at these state institutions, it’s the allowing of student loans on these associate/prep for profit degrees. The price gouging involved there is insane.
Have state ran associates programs the only ones that can get a federal funding for 2 year degrees and force those state programs to offer technical options at the same credit hour and rigor level as the associates degrees used to meet college core requirements for 4 year schools.
Most of the drowning in student debt stories we hear are the 200k undergrad degrees, but the data shows most of the real harm is those that fail out at the diploma mills..

OT is a Master's Level Degree with f/u internship req's. 7-8 yrs in total. I've never even heard of an AssoDeg in "OT".

$60,000 in private loans with high interest
Why is anyone supposed to feel sorry for this?
They always want to blame the government or the rich. This is a consequence of pushing "equity". Give low IQs mortgages, they default and cause a housing crisis. Give low IQ's student loans, they get worthless degrees and take out way more then they need so they don't have to work. We aren't a majority European native country anymore. There is a reason there isn't free college and prosperous per capita life in the third world. Yet we will keep trying to shove a square peg through a round hole in the name of equity.

I thought so. I knew it was offered through LSU Health Sciences Center. I didn’t suspect it could be obtained simply as an “associates degree.” Did this chick spend upwards of 100k for some sort of useless “tech” type “degree”?

didn't make the best financial decisions in my 20s, but 85K for an Associate's? WTF
I only racked up 28k in 3 years at MSU after 2 years in juco on a football scholarship
85k is insane for a 2 year degree

Seems like, "they were uniquely able to exploit" would be more appropriate there.

Let's see:
1) I want to be a teacher
2) Teachers make ~$60K/yr
3) Notre Dame is a cool school
4) Notre Dame runs about $80K/yr, all in.
5) Uhmmm .... $320K for four years .... HEY I got accepted!
6) South Bend here I come!
7) 10yrs later ... Wow! This $300K loan is a real drag. Someone who was more responsible needs to pay it off for me.

It helps to do research first and determine the projected outlook for your chosen occupation. The key is to choose a career in high demand.

This was not written by an idiot with an associates degree in occupational health therapy that wasted nearly a $100k chasing a stupid degree. THAT person would write like an idiot. This was written by someone with an agenda.

This person may be better off just leaving the country.

associates degree in occupational therapy. I owe $25,000 in federal student loans, and $60,000 in private loans
