It's not a handout, it's lower property taxes.

I voted no. I have 0 expectation local governments can manage their budgets without property taxes. The money has to come from somewhere. I have yet to see a viable better solution.

I maybe wrong and I can accept that. I just don't see a better solution right now.

Y’all are voting to increase homestead exemption (free shite) which sounds good but they’ll increase property taxes and appraisals to make up the difference

At least yalls aren’t free shite for boomers like ours

In a perfect world there would be no homestead exemption and normal people could buy up the ghetto at the sheriff sale

I don't consider less taxes as free shite. That's government stealing less of the peoples money.

And it's pretty much in line with the inflation and increases in appraisals.

Personally I'd get rid of property taxes. If you own it, then you own it. Property taxes are rent.

The wife and I voted yes but I think it needs a 65% or greater to pass. Hope it does but unfortunately I think it falls short

There's basically 0 plans to run the government operations that depend on it. So yes I do. I'd love to make cuts to plenty of it, but a huge portion of it HAS to be paid for. Where's that money coming from?

The issue here is Desantis had basically 0 plan to pay. Raise sales tax to 10%? Whats the other options? There's literally no plan

So you want to make cuts, but then vote to keep giving them your money?

How about local governments start with their budget (there is so much waste)? That will never happen as long as people vote to keep giving them money.

I voted no too. I like the premise and want lesser property taxes, but it's only good for a couple of years. There is no long term plan to have that the money come from somewhere else. It's a band-aid on a bullet wound IMO.

Its not free shite when its my money

That's the most ridiculous framing I've ever seen of it.

Its a moral issue to me. Taxing someone's home is completely immoral. You could tell me that the state would get rid of property tax but add on a sales tax that would cost me more than the property tax would over the course of a year to replace the revenue and I would still vote for it out of principal.

If you operate this way you will never cut taxes.

Local governments will have to adjust their budgets. That isn't the job of the state.

They've done their little pet projects like holograms of the Jacksonville mayor in the airport, bureaucratic positional bloat, social programs that throw money at situations and do nothing to solve it. Sink or swim baby, figure it out or we will vote you out for someone who will.
