I voted no too. I like the premise and want lesser property taxes, but it's only good for a couple of years. There is no long term plan to have that the money come from somewhere else. It's a band-aid on a bullet wound IMO.
I will never understand this thinking. You said "it's a band-aid on a bullet wound" but you would rather keep getting shot.

i have no idea what the amendment is about but if you voted "no", I guess I can scratch off reparations?

So you want to make cuts, but then vote to keep giving them your money?
How about local governments start with their budget (there is so much waste)? That will never happen as long as people vote to keep giving them money.
Because that's not how it works at all and you assuming these governments will get their budget cuts and make it better is just being ignorant.
I'd vote no to reduce property taxes, I voted no on my counties 1/2 cent sales tax increase. So take that for what its worth, I voted to decrease my county.
My issue, and what you don't understand and Desantis planned poorly for, is that with no proper planning what will happen is they will call some bullshite EMERGENCY bullshite response. No government is perfect, they will over shoot and end up taxing us more so that they don't operate in a loss.
Not to mention, probably pay a bunch of bullshite accounting and planning consultants obscene money to plan something out.
Without a better plan, this wasn't a plan at all. So yes I voted no.

Seriously doubt you own anything to pay property tax on

Can you imagine voting no with c on z about something? frick

Probably won’t pass unfortunately. All one has to do is look at the retards in this thread that voted No.
Instead of forcing local municipalities to be more responsible and force needed changes, we still have plenty of sheep willing to keep taking it while smiling.
Is amendment 3 perfect, absolutely not. But will it start to force desperately needed fiscal change and responsibility, you bet.
Property tax is the biggest theft of our tax system. No reason your primary home should be leased from the government.

The justifications of a no vote in this thread are fricking retarded

Like I said, give me a better solution? No one has presented one that I've seen.
Its not like we have high property taxes to start with. We aren't even in the top 25.
Furthermore, as I said, Desantis and co whom I like btw have given literally 0 solutions for local governments to pay for what is covered. 0.

There is no plan to replace that revenue.
Each municipality will have to shrink government (pipe dream) or find another way to fill up that bucket.
Many public safety budgets are on hold right now if not most. They don’t know what they will be given for budgets for the next year.
It’s gonna be a mess if it passes. The bucket of money will be filled. The name of the filler will just change IMO.

We are in the top 25 for median tax bills, because home values are higher in FL than in some states with a higher effective tax rate.
Does the government care when my income decreases and I have to make tough budget decisions that affect my family? Quite frankly, I don't care what the plan is to replace the funding, I have multiple properties both residential and commercial and my annual property taxes are absurd. The government entities need to figure out how to do more with less. Waiting for a perfect plan that will never come isn't the answer

I am in Georgia.
But I dont understand the concept of the state legislation passing amendments that affect county tax collection.
Is every county the same?
Shouldn't the counties be in charge of their own budgets?
Id be pissed off to high heaven if the federal government starts dictating how the Georgia state budget should work.

It's a change to the Florida homestead exemption amount, not the tax rate
Posted on 11/3/26 at 5:04 pm to DCtiger1
Yeah...I mean spending less and balancing the budget is the whole god damn reason for amendment 3 lol
Posted on 11/3/26 at 5:08 pm to TheOcean

At least a 10 min wait to vote.
Awesome.

Are we talking about county taxes or state taxes?
Posted on 11/3/26 at 5:15 pm to meansonny
We are talking about property taxes. The homestead exemption would be increased to 150k then 250k over the next two years. It's not voting to change any county or state tax rates, it's allowing for primary residences to have less of a tax burden
