We are talking about property taxes. The homestead exemption would be increased to 150k then 250k over the next two years. It's not voting to change any county or state tax rates, it's allowing for primary residences to have less of a tax burden
You are dodging the question (intentionally?)
Are the tax receipts going to the state or the county?

The frick are you talking about? It's paid to the county. The Homestead exemption amount is a state law.

Because that's not how it works at all and you assuming these governments will get their budget cuts and make it better is just being ignorant.
Do you not have elected people who vote on how fund their county? Do you not vote? Stop giving money to government just because they’ll try something else to get money.
I believe government needs money for many things but I never want to just give my hard earned money to the government because of what they might try to do.
If you’re waiting until you get a plan that stops government waste and causes government to shrink itself, you’re being ignorant. You have to vote to keep government in check.

Just voted. Down ticket Republican, and "yes" for amendment 3.
Poll workers said it was crazy busy all day long. The line was longer when I left than when I got there.
Man they've got it dialed in here. Instant signature verification that has to match what's on your driver's license.

I voted no. I have 0 expectation local governments can manage their budgets without property taxes. The money has to come from somewhere. I have yet to see a viable better soluti
That's idiotic. Just in my town alone the city budget has doubled in the last 6 years. The number of houses has increased by over 40%. The city manager, who I know makes over 200K a year. He just bought a $185k boat. They don't have a revenue problem they have a spending problem.
They're being paid off by developers, to approve subdivision after subdivision. Literally paid to vote yes on approval of more building.
This countries government institutions are corrupt, from the local to Federal levels. And your solution is to give them more $ to waste?
I mean they're going to do it anyway. But, I'm not going to vote in favor of it.
I own 3 houses, I'm about to pay over $14,500 for property taxes on these homes, that my family and myself have paid off, the last one over 20 years ago. With money taxed when we earned it initially. frick the Government and all they're wasteful b.s. It's legalized theft. They're worse than the Mob.

Property values are up 20% over the last 6 years.
How does the tax digest double?
What city?
This should be public record.

How much is the county revenue going to decrease due to the state law?
Posted on 11/3/26 at 6:27 pm to meansonny
I don't care how much county revenue is reduced by allowing me to claim an extra 75k in exemption. Their job is to figure that out, not mine.

I voted yes. They will still get way more in property taxes than 5-6 years ago. It may be time to set a budget, stick to it, and lower the number of public servants making $200-260k per year.

It was presented last city meeting. Just last year alone. $144,473,884 (an increase of 16.9% compared to the previous fiscal year). They've annexed subdivisions into the city limits. The town has added many more businesses. The population went from just over 11,000 to over 18,000. With projections of up near 40k by 2035. More houses = more tax revenue. More businesses = more tax revenue. For a while there they had flock cameras mailing out speeding tickets, until DeSantis stopped it. Almost a 50% jump in revenue for ticketed traffic fines. These Yankee assholes move down here, get elected by dipshits. Sell their yes votes to developers, to the highest bidder. Enrich themselves, and move to the beach. It's been happening for decades here

With an estimated 59% of votes counted statewide, 59.6% of voters had endorsed the amendment, just shy of the 60% needed for it to pass, according to Decision Desk HQ.
If 60% of voters vote yes, it will increase by five-fold the amount of a home's property value that can be exempted from the taxes levied by municipal governments on Floridians' primary residences.
We might be good, boys. Panhandle coming in hot

It's not a handout, it's lower property taxes.
But you are increasing it on other property tax payers that are not homestead exempt or are valued at higher than the threshold.
Do you think the government will live with less income?

lol. Look, I’m happy for lower property tax.
Don’t you own rentals? Do you have an office?
All they are going to do is increase your business tax licenses, property taxes on non homestead, sales tax, etc.
I’m sure there will be temporary cuts to local government and that’s great. There’s also going to be temporary absolute chaos and likely me as a business owner will end up paying much much more.
ETA: my daughters public schools are under funded imo and our parks and rec sucks. I’m not a democrat, but I didn’t see a ton of bloat

I apologize I didn’t realize you can’t do basic math. From Google:
quote:
AI Overview
Florida property values have increased by roughly 54% to 64% overall since the start of 2020, though growth has plateaued and cooled slightly through 2026.
What is 54-64% increase in values plus 40% more?
Hold on, I think it’s….about 100%?
So just to be clear, demand has doubled so a budget has doubled?
