Sounds like Bob Riley.

All y'all who remember the "Bingo Bots" on al.com remember.

I live in VA. My conservative friends and I have a text thread going on this. After the redistricting vote debacle, this is a bright spot in our day.

On X, some lady was being sour in the thread on the Fox News report about this raid. She said something like “How’d you happen to be there? Did the FBI inform you?” (Tone was pissy, like it’s somehow immoral to be reporting on the raid). I was like, “Roger Stone says hey.”

Yeah those same people cheered on CNN being at his property for a 3AM raid.

It’s a shame they can’t put a plastic box around our tax dollars like they put around the fake nails at walgreens

That is a shot across the bow! Fight fire, with fire. That is the hill that Trump will die on. Literally so. It's live or die for him, as he is the point of the spear.

Agreed.

I hate that all this is happening. But I believe it's necessary for Trump, or republicans to go after their political opponents in the same way they were hunted between 2016 and 2024.

Republicans have to fight fire with fire. You have to demonstrate that you're willing to fight back with the same tactics as your opponent, regardless of how shitty those tactics may be. It's possible that what some would call "political persecution" or "retribution" will only make things worse. Democrats may continue their same playbook once back in power. But I think the best chance of putting an end to all this crap is to fight fire with fire. Taking the high road will certainly do nothing to turn down the temperature. At least there's a chance to tone things down if republicans fight back in a dirty way.

I consider it a political version of the mutually assured destruction theory.

For decades now, half of the republicans have been bringing knives to the gunfight, and the other half has yet to realize they're even in a fight.

Think of Portsmouth as the “chocolate city“ of Virginia.

Yep, dw, it's the old 'playground bully' scenario. Punch the bully in the nose and they will measure the cost/benefit dynamic.

Of course, we are dealing with Marxists, and the historical record is pretty clear on that. Like the Jihadis, they won't go quietly into the ideological night. "Tone down" is the best we can hope for, imo. Albeit it either Mass Deportation or "fundamental change", with little space for compromise. Let's hope AI can take up the slack lest the whole society end up back in caves.

From local media

The New York Times is reporting that two people familiar with the case said the search was in connection with an investigation opened during the Biden administration. This investigation was opened to examine "possible corruption and bribery related to marijuana dispensary businesses," NYT reports.

So much for any accusations of this being retaliatory from the Republicans

I don't hate seeing that at all, if it's legit. And it does seem to be legit.

I'm (maybe irresponsibly) lumping this in with the Comey indictment, the indictment of the guy connected to Fauci, etc. Those may be legit as well. Hell, I hope they are legit and we get perp walks.

I just hate that this is what it's all come down to. We're turning into a banana republic.

There was a time when we generally didn't question our justice department, or the FBI. When indictments were made, people resigned, and there was an extremely high chance of conviction. Nowadays, no matter what you're accused of, if you're a politician, you have a built-in network of support that will be there for you, damned the facts.
