The idea that the benefits of drinking fluoride outweigh the potential costs seems facially absurd to me. Especially when, as noted in this thread, there are much more targeted and local methods of dental care.

My own anecdotal n=1 evidence: I haven’t lived in a place with fluoridated water ever and have had just the most minor of cavities (more like “spots of concern”) over 50 years. (Edit: we did live in one place with fluoridated water but filtered it now that I think about it. On a well now with filters, so other than whatever groundwater contamination exists up in the wooded mountains and makes it through, we’re pure.)
