I think states should go to an electoral college system at the county level. The electoral college is a brilliant system. Democrats should have told Hillary to visit Wisconsin, not try and steal voting power from Wisconsin the next time around.

Why does OP want mob rule?
And if three candidates are in the race you want a president that won with 33.4% of people voting for them? Or 4 candidates and the winner receives 25.1% of votes.

Are you really as stupid as you sound? The OP, ladies and gentlemen, is what you get when they don’t teach history and civics anymore, and you have sniveling liberal globalist indoctrination turning our children’s brains to mush.

I, the OP, don’t recall advocating for one or the other and just would like to hear ideas on what people think is the fairest system to elect a president. Perhaps dividing up electoral votes in each state based on votes received instead of one candidate receiving them all.

I think voter turnout would be better if people didn’t have their vote for a national election totally drowned out by the people immediately around them.

So would apportioning electoral votes based on congressional districts/percentage of population without disbanding the electoral college.

Uh, isn't that EXACTLY how it's done?

Anybody who thinks it isn't necessary should get on the google and do a little investigating.

Well, if you live in a solid red or blue state and intend to vote differently from the majority of your state you might feel that your vote is meaningless.

how about Wisconsin in the 2016 election?

Jumping on the OP for asking a question is not helpful. He didn't come out swinging and put out a topic. Crawling up his arse for having an opinion is not fair to him in the spirit of civility.

I disagree with going with the popular vote, but let's talk it out rather them being dick heads about it.

This is a really good topic to toss around.

Here's a thought..if Al Gore (algore) had carried his home state of Tennessee he would have been the President.

People vote based on several factors, one of which is efficacy. If you believe your vote won’t make a difference in the outcome, you may not vote. That will be the case for the EC or the NPV. If one party wins the NPV every election, you’ll find people who vote for the other party not bothering to vote.

We have to remember that while nationally we use the EC system, each state is essentially a popular vote system for choosing electors. If we were able to stem illegal immigration and get rid of those that are here illegally, you’ll likely see more Republicans coming out to vote in California even without switching to the NPV.

Quite literally a candidate could run up the score in California, New York, Massachusetts Virginia and Illinois, and the West coast and lose the rest of the country and they could win the whole thing. If you want your fates being determined by people in LA, SF,Boston and NYC, by all means scrap the Electoral College .

No. It's winner-take-all. My way would end that practice.

They have, but you're being willfully obtuse and refuse to listen.

Popular vote...all the way.

Folks in Europe and much of the developed world think Americans are kooky for not determining a presidential winner by popular vote.

Why should we give a shite what Eurotrash thinks of us? It's a much different situation here than it is there given the size of our country and the various needs/beliefs of different regions.

No, the EC is not necessary. In fact, voting is not necessary. We should select our President by having a team of entomologists examine the entrails of a gnat and interpret their meaning to determine the best leader.

You're just lying. Tell me again how Britain chooses their Prime Minister, and the Germans elect a Chancellor?

The EC is absolutely necessary. WE DON'T WANT DEMOCRACY. We want to remain a Constitutional Republic. I don't want the urban enclaves on the east and west coast to dictate to me how I can worship, speak, and live the life of my choosing.

I agree with you. But you and I better stiffen our spines because blue states and their politicians are going to do everything to undo the way our country has been run. You better be ready to fight for what you believe!
