Yes.

It was put into place to keep things even in representation in the WH. If you by popular vote, Cali has 40 MILLION people there out of the 325 million in the USA.

If you go to popular vote, everything in cali is forced on the nation.

I certainly won't try to change the rules after they didn't work out for me.

Okay let me ask you this. Should the Christians in America be shot on the spot, or should they be herded together and marched into the ocean en masse. Stupid question...right? But no more stupid than your question. Take time to read the Federalist Papers and the U.S.Constitution before you peddle this crap.

Of course it is necessary.

Without it California and New York would decide every election.

Of course it is necessary. Without it California and New York would decide every election.
For that reason, it is good policy. I agree.

But that is not the same as “necessary.”

Early in the thread I said

(The EC) does continue to serve a valid purpose (federalism), and I certainly would not discard it.
And that post has received unanimous downvotes. The EC has just become another kneejerk issue, with one side reacting like spoiled children when discussion of the issue is even raised. The epithets hurled at the OP for daring to ask a question? They constitute Exhibit One.

If eliminated NY, California, and FL will decide the elections. The rest of America will be meaningless at the polls.

Well, if you live in a solid red or blue state and intend to vote differently from the majority of your state you might feel that your vote is meaningless.

No I think we should have mob rule and if the Democrats still lose import millions of more poor brown voters for an entire new underclass so we can implement true Marxism.

Is that the right answer???

Each of those (large) states ALSO has more GOP voters than the vast majority of Red states. In fact, it would not surprise me if all three have more than any Red state other than Texas.

Yes, it's necessary. Have you actually studied the founding of this country?

Are you really as stupid as you sound? The OP, ladies and gentlemen, is what you get when they don’t teach history and civics anymore, and you have sniveling liberal globalist indoctrination turning our children’s brains to mush.

In fairness, there's a shite ton of people who stay home in CA and don't vote because it's a stacked deck against them. This could greatly increase turnout.

Also, while we're at it, give every state a single three-day early voting period to vote, in-person (except in cases where you are abroad), and make it a one-day national holiday on election day. That's it.

Necessary? Back in 1789, yes. The smaller states would not have ratified without it.

Today, the system is hardly “necessary,” but it does continue to serve a valid purpose (federalism), and I certainly would not discard it.
Nope. We’re far more urbanized, and population more concentrated now. If anything, the equal representation component should be higher now. Not lower. Certainly not nil.

Do you think that the group think present in Los Angeles and NYC should determine the direction of the ENTIRE country?

So would apportioning electoral votes based on congressional districts/percentage of population without disbanding the electoral college.

Again, a strong argument as to why the EC continues to be "good policy," with which I agree.

I am still waiting for someone to explain why it is "necessary."

Will the nation cease to exist, if the EC is discarded? Much like the nation ceased to exist when we moved to direct election of Senators?
