Do you think the EC is necessary or do you think presidential elections should be decided by popular vote?

Today, the system is hardly “necessary,” but it does continue to serve a valid purpose (federalism), and I certainly would not discard it.

Everyone knew it was possible to win the EC without the popular vote. No one had a problem with this before November 2016.

Baw did you take Civics?
Let me guess, you are one of those retards who thinks CA should have 10 Senators instead of 2.

It's not even that; it would be 4 or 5 states deciding for all of us.
Essentially what happens with the primary system. The first few states in the mid west thin out the field before they ever make it to primary here. Glad New Hampshire and Iowa get to thin the field to their favorite candidates. I'd venture some of the primaries would have produced wildly different results had the primaries went in reverse order.

I'd be fine with popular vote but you have to pay taxes to vote.

We are a nation of individual states and the EC reflects that.

We are a federal system, which means the federal government is only empowered via the collective will of the States. Accordingly, I think the fairest way is that the President should be elected by a majority of the States. Get that through and I’ll support abolition of the EC.

Have you bothered to read what the founding fathers thought of direct democracy rule? Cue up Thomas Jefferson or John Adams. See what they thought of the idea.

Income tax. I don't want somebody voting because they bought a pack of Marlboros and claim they pay taxes.
If you have a net zero or negative paid income taxes, no vote. That takes care of leeches and anyone who games the system.

The EC is absolutely necessary. WE DON'T WANT DEMOCRACY. We want to remain a Constitutional Republic. I don't want the urban enclaves on the east and west coast to dictate to me how I can worship, speak, and live the life of my choosing.
I am opposed to mob rule!

Absolutely not. New York and California should decide the laws for everyone and the president for everyone every year. That seems fair to me.
