I think things in the state are much better and continuing to move in the right direction. I also think it is in spite of him.

I don't necessarily have a problem with his policies, it's more his sleazy used car sales personality and his constant self promotion. But...it is true...he is much better than JBE.

Based on what criteria exactly?

Comparatively speaking he’s middle of the pack. Better than some, worse than others, but nowhere near being the best nor the worst.

He’s like an unsalted vanilla ice cream made with a lot of artificial ingredients. Kinda OK but definitely lacking.

Is he better than what the alternative Democrat would have been?

That wasn't our only option. There was a much better Republican choice in the race, too.

Is there any self awareness in the Great State of Louisiana at all? Why do y'all keep electing arse-hat losers over, and over, and over? Surely there is SOMEONE who could serve as governor and do a decent job! Go find that person and put them in office and quit providing housing for criminals and morons at the Governor's Mansion.

you left out Murphy Foster and Clara Bell Blanco. Blanco sucked donkey dicks. Foster was good. Especially in his first term.

I don't think its the individual who is the problem. Its the system. The institution itself. Its so corrupt and prone to corruption, that anyone who is elected has to do shady shite to get anything done. Its exacerbated by those who want to do harm, like EWE. But I think our entire political system is so corrupt it requires a certain level of immorality simply to exist within it. Thats why its so difficult to find a "good" person to serve. They may be "good" as a candidate, but if they want to survive, they have to become part of the frickery.

I’m mostly unaware of him, which is generally a good thing.

If you want to get me all negative, please list his failures.

Failing at true tort reform because he's been bought by injury lawyers.

Your observation is more than likely spot on. In my few years as an undergrad from out of state at LSU I was amazed at the continual carping about the governor. Didn't matter who it was the bitching was the same. Over the years since then it seems like the sentiment hasn't changed one whit - judging by the poli board here.

I truly believe that you are, more than likely, spot on in your assessment. It's hard to pinpoint exactly, though. Louisiana and Kentucky have amended and rewritten their state constitutions rather frequently and in many instances have mirrored each others changes. Kentucky has had its fair share of gubernatorial issues as well. (Martha Layne Collins' term as governor simply ensured that Kentucky would never elect a woman to that position again as long as anyone living remembers it.)

It's just frustrating for me to see all the continual unhappiness with every single governor that is elected in Louisiana. I fell in love with Louisiana when I was so graciously blessed with the opportunity to attend and graduate from LSU and I want the state to be successful in every way. I get worn out listening to people berate such a lovely place and it's even more irksome to hear it so often from the people who live there and should be able to do something about it.

Thanks AI. But...specially this:

Louisiana surpassed 2 million non-farm jobs in Q2 2025, a mark only achieved once before in state history.
The state has seen 51 consecutive months of year-over-year job growth.
All major metro regions experienced job growth in Q2 2025.
