Disney set the precedent in 2019 when they were radio silent after the China-Hong Kong fiasco. Disney has invested billions in China and they said nothing about child labor slaves who work in sweatshops with suicide nets around the buildings. They valued money over everything and we’re going to be agnostic when it comes to social issues.

Now, after getting pressure from moonbat activists, they’ve waded into the political arena. It’s all about being consistent.

Desantis has leverage because Disney can't just pack up and move Disneyworld. All he's doing is removing special perks that Disney got from the state 50 years ago.

The major Republican platform is economics and job creation, what does DeSantis or his party gain by going toe to toe with Disney?
Disney's platform used to be creating wholesome family entertainment in the form of TV shows, movies, and theme park experiences. Now they want to try to use their influence to allow teachers to discuss topics related to sexuality and gender identity with 5-8 year old students. Sounds to me like Disney should've stayed in their lane.

Someone needs to revive Walt from his cryogenic chamber under the park to take control of his company again.

the highest tax player

With 45 million Guests a year, Disney Travel Co. is the second-biggest tour seller, even though they only sell Disney vacations. The Orlando Sentinel noted that these tax breaks save the company hefty amounts each year.

sales tax.

You aint seen nothing yet! Wait until the assessors get a hold of all those extravagant hotels and starts for the first time ever collecting taxes on them
quote:

As reported by the Orlando Sentinel, Disney is “avoiding some state and local taxes by selling theme-park tickets and other items to itself.” It seems that Walt Disney World sells hotel rooms, tickets, meal plans, and other travel package details to another Walt Disney Co. subsidiary called the Walt Disney Travel Co. Then, the company prices up the vacation packages and sells them to Guests at a new “retail price”.

The tax payers are going to be asking why they havent done this to Disney sooner, because thats how millages work. The more money that comes in from the millage, the less your tax bill is each year

Bingo!

Disney never imagined the State of Florida would respond in kind to their threat. Now Disney screwed themselves for no reason by essentially poking Florida to remove their decade's long sweet deal.

But Disney World might leave Florida!!!!!!!!

Ok. Have fun finding a state with enough land to completely rebuild the monster infrastructure in place that took decades to build, and also....has as a climate conducive to year-round peak attendance.

Colorado said they would welcome Disney. I'm sure riding a snow covered Big Thunder Mountain in January would be wonderful. People from all over the northern part of the country would be dying to leave the cold of their homes to vacation in...more cold weather.

You mean they can't simply pick up and move it as though it were an all-star game?

What's the end play for DeSantis vs. Disney?

In two months the media would have forgotten about this. And the leftist current outrage will be off to something else. Hell.. if the Musk-Twitter deal comes through.. Disney is forgotten about this week.

That’s the actual end play.

First, Disney will remain largest private employer.
Second, Disney will remain the highest tax player.
Third, Disney will still provide economic tourism.

Disney isn't going to spend $50 billion or whatever it takes to move EVERYTHING out of state.

Disney needs Florida much more than Florida needs Disney. The Disney vacuum will be EASILY filled it it ever comes to it.

DeSantis is taking a stand. Disney... by your own admission is tourism company. DISNEY decided to get involved in politics. No one to blame but Disney here.

BTW Disney picked this fight without looking at the costs, thinking they were untouchable.

I get what you are saying. What is the goal though.Shut the entire thing down?

The goal was to finally make liberals happy by government reigning in an out of control billion dollar corporation that enjoyed lucrative tax breaks at the expense of taxpayers. The thing they campaign on and fight for.

And they still aren’t happy. So much for the olive branch approach.

Maybe he simply doesnt want the duly elected state legislature's authority challenged or even compromised by powerful media oligarchs. At least not while said oligarchs are enjoying special tax breaks granted by that same legislature.

Still headquartered in California and they as a Corporation are saying they will try to overturn a State Government Law. DeSantis is effectively saying the frick you will to Disney with this move. What will Disney do? Pick up and move? Yeah right. They couldn't even if they wanted too. This is a power move and a smart one at that.

Well a huge factor is that Disney isn’t exactly going to move the parks.
