Was WW2 the only war or episode in history that can draw comparisons?
Seems like it... and most of the comparisons are wrong based on America getting involved to save the Jews and world from Hitler. We were on the sidelines for a while for some reason.
Its mainly due to most Americans get their history from Hollywood movies.

Guys, we can’t use that atomic bomb because “Reeeeee!!!! What about all those Japanese children!?!”
That debate did occur. The estimate of American soldiers lost with an invasion convinced the Prez to drop the bombs.
It saved my uncle's life. He was in San Diego preparing to ship out for the invasion of Japan. The commander then announced: 'The war is over. You'll be heading back home soon.'

German invasion of Belgium began on May 10, 1940.
The United States didnt declared war on Nazi Germany until December 11, 1941.
The Battle of Stalingrad started on August 23, 1942.
Soviet Union began pushing Nazi Germany out of its territory in 1943, following the decisive victory at the Battle of Stalingrad, which ended in February 1944
The United States (along with Allied forces) doesnt landed in Normandy, France until June 6, 1944.
Oooooffffff! Late to the war. Letting Russia do the heavy lifting then showing up late to get credit. Guys, what a bunch of panicking dough boys.

Yep. Especially after the fact. Condemned by Pius 12 (three years after the fact), and supposedly by a good chunk of the US brass. So glad that Truman stuck to his guns and NEVER expressed regret at any point in his life. Not only would all those US soldiers and marines have been killed, but we’re now on about the 4th generation that would have been erased from existence if all those men had died. Plus, we probably would have ended up with North Japan and South Japan like we did with Korea.

One of the wisest and best person I've ever known was my ex wife's grandfather. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean wars. He only had a 6th grade education but was very wise and intelligent.
Anyways, I remember him telling me afer the Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, there were leftist cowards in Congress arguing against becoming involved in WWII. The leftist back then probably weren't as fricked off, divisive, and inflammatory as the ones we have today.. but they existed.

No.
It's just the comparison that was drawn in this thread.
Feel absolutely free to start another thread using some other war as a point of comparison for anything you'd like.

Well, that was still when we were a nation of isolationist pussies, which America was for what? 150 years or so?
During that time was had us TWO world wars and one in which nuclear weapons were used. Since we've abandoned that childish philosophy we've had no world wars and no nukes used, and the proxy wars we did fight went a long ways toward the bankruptcy and subsequent collapse of the biggest threat to all life on the planet since there were people on it, the U.S.S.R.
