They had a veto proof majority last time, before a couple of crooks sold out. It would be hard for me to believe they'd lose now when all they need is a simple majority. Plus, it was one of Landry's more popular campaign promises.

The cops can flex all they like. This is passing.

Just saw Landry issued a state of emergency due to lack of officers. Hmmmm…wonder if this is a move to appease the DA & Sheriffs association

It was passed last time with a veto proof majority. But JBE called their bluff and vetoed it and they didn’t override.
Well there was a vote to override. However, three republicans made deals with the governor and abstained from voting so it failed.

Oklahoma doesn't have the demographics that Louisiana law enforcement has to deal with.

Visit North Tulsa or Southwest OKC. Or OKC around the Capitol area near 23rd/MLK. The demographics are disproportionately there.

Those officers in those areas advocated for permitless constitutional carry as well. Even in the hoods and barrios, there are far more good people that can/should carry guns than bad people that do.

I'll be surprised if it passes without a hitch. I'm surprised at some of the conservatives in Louisiana I know who oppose it. I think it will pass though but may not go as smoothly as some people think. My hunch is that a handful of GOP legislators make it on Landry's shite list during this. Would be nice to see it pass easily though.

EBR sheriff opposed it under a foolish notion that some how it puts officers in more danger? Because criminals tell you they are carrying a weapon before they shoot you.

Yeah, got in an argument with my buddy, very conservative, when he said he did not support it. He thinks it means more guns in the hands of bad guys and concealed guns, making things more dangerous for law enforcement. I told him every violent murderous criminal in Louisiana is already illegally conceal-carrying now and they don't give a F about the law. This will only give law abiding folks a chance to protect themselves more adequately. It's amazing some of the people I know who do not get that.

That's the big issue
You have guys teaching courses on a day off. They have 10 or more people in the class, for $100 a person; so you're talking 1-2K for a day.

They don't want to lose that payday.

If you travel out of state it's good to have for reciprocity.

"Reciprocity" isn't an issue today if you're traveling to constitutional carry states. If you're traveling in or among states that all have constitutional carry, any state that recognizes that concept doesn't also say the US Constitution only applies to residents of that state and not to residents of Louisiana.

Logically the idea of a permit undermines the whole idea of the supremacy of the Constitution as your justification for carrying in the first place. Texas law doesn't say the 2nd amendment applies to Texas residents only, it applies to any legal gun owner in Texas, whether resident or visitor.

Some states with constitutional carry or 'shall issue' states have historically issued its residents cards for 'reciprocity' (Alaska, New Hampshire) with no continuing education requirements or excessive cost like the silly CWP nonsense Louisiana has now. But Vermont is a permitless carry state, it doesn't issue any physical 'permit' to its citizens, yet they have reciprocity with Louisiana too.

The idea of paying $125 plus 'continuing education' from largely uninformed off duty cops goes away with constitutional carry.

Most states are permitless carry adjacent to Louisiana already. Leaving Louisiana, you can drive to Florida, to Ohio, up to Montana and every state in between allows permitless carry already. It is a shame we have to drive across state lines to get the full benefit of the Constitution.

Public and private sector collusion to charge for exercising a fundamental right is the definition of fascism. The founding fathers didn't attach strings to inalienable rights.

I'm all for Constitutional carry but will still keep my license

Yeah I keep my license with my vehicle registration & insurance. A copy of the 2nd amendment. I also have an account I do not touch & have not touched for several years just for attorney's fees if I'm ever arrested for my right to bear arms.

I realize that fight would be costly, as I would intend to take it all the way to the SC if needed.

That all sounds great. Will you be around to talk to a sheriff three years into his tenure when I'm out of state? A permit, while I don't think I should need it, shuts up inexperienced LEOs (I don't say that condescendingly.)

We bitch about this shite constantly, among Internet warriors, and we expect some 24 year old ex-lance corporal to figure this stuff out on the fly? Yeah, should know the law, blah blah, but there's reality and fantasy. Spend $130 every 3-5 years, and make it easy on the poor bastard that pulled you over. Even though you shouldn't have to. Gun rights are a constant grind of a pressure, pressure, pressure, a little bit of movement.

Pass it, I'm all for it. But don't think you will be getting a safer society.....or more dangerous one because of it. The 2nd Amendment says you have the right to bear arms.

I think his point is the fee should only cover the cost associated with the program. Should not be tons of money left over to do other things.

How do you pass a constitutional carry law if it's not in your constitution? We are constitutional carry state but our AG (a democrat, no less) ruled that our constitution makes us one.
