The CCW Class is NOT decent training. It is not training at all.
I've always been a long gun (hunting kind of guy). When I got my CCP, I just paid the money, got finger printed, background check and my license came in the mail. I did not need what an enhanced permit allowed you to do but it was formal training with experts on the laws, gun safety, shooting range where you had to score high enough to pass. But, I did it because I needed more knowledge of handguns.

The La CCW class does a good job of covering the laws and the universal firearms safety rules.

It does nothing to teach you how to operate, shoot, or fight with a handgun.

I have literally shot the CCW qual with my eyes closed

Mine didnt. It showed a picture of a semi-auto gun and a revolver describing the parts. There was a simple open book multiple questions test that anyone growing up with firearms could ace. I got every question correct.

Shooting was a no brainer but some folks (clas of about 8) showed up with brand new hangun bought the day before. Was quite a show.

I used my 1911. Hit may target requirements, then goofed off the remainder box of ammo. Head shots, groupings, etc.

Was a joke of a class. Nothing about laws. Well there was an old 1980s video that may have hinted on a law. Basically showed a woman pulling a small revolver out her purse in a parking garage on an attacker. The law part came in when the instructor said women have a better defense case than men.

all in all I just wanted an easy day but I was hoping to hear all about laws, what to do, when to do, why to do, what to expect after, what to say after, etc

Some are better than others. I’ve been through a few. My fist was sort of a joke.
My last one was solid. Good class discussion on situational awareness. Danger avoidance rather than engagement. When is it appropriate to shoot someone? lots of talk about vigilantly behavior. Lots of discussion about the law and the likelyhood that a lawsuit will come if you shoot someone.

My only concern with the state passing a constitutional carry bill is that we will likely see an increase in shootings as we have a lot of yahoo’s out there. People drinking and carrying guns and using bad judgement.

I expect that the trial attorneys are all in favor of the law change too. They’ll be suing people every chance they get after a shooting

Got any proof to back this up or is just a hunch? Ive seen stats posted both ways. Most use the fact that homicides increase, but dont say whether or not they were legal or not. So an increase in homicides may just be the good guys winning.

Would be illegal even with constitutional carry.

Hopefully one of the pro-2A states will have the balls to repeal the Hughes amendment. Fully automatic guns should be completely legal.

So is constitutional carry the law in Louisiana now?

No. I believe Governor still has to sign it into law.

Constitutional carry only applies if you live in the state. You can’t travel to MS or TX as a LA resident and CC legally unless you have a license from your home state.

Incorrect. There is no 'license' required by the US Constitution in the 2nd amendment, the concept recognizes the supremacy of the Constitution over any states' prior restrictions on this right.

Go read the Texas constitutional carry law, or any other of the 26 permitless carry states, there are no residency requirements, only location requirements (i.e. you're located in that state and can legally own a gun according to FEDERAL law).

You certainly can drive from Louisiana to Texas, Arkansas or Mississippi and carry according to the existing states' laws.

Please show us all where a state-issued document, license or tribute paid to your benevolent local Sheriff of Nottingham is required by constitutional carry.

You know what permit I have? The constitution of the United States of America. It says I can bear arms. It doesn’t say how.

IDGAF if it passes or not. I don’t carry often, but will when I think I need to. I’d rather live to fight it than die following rules that criminals do not.

My granddaddy used to say “I’d rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6. I follow the same line of thinking.

I believe it passed. But Landry just needs to sign it…which he said he will. Thank you to McCormick and Miguez.

I may take a class even though I’m very proficient with pistols/revolvers, just to hear some of the legalities. The only reason I never got a CCP was because I didn’t want my fingerprints in the system and didn’t want to have to take classes every few years and pay renewal fees.

I can't emphasize this enough. Even if another state you're traveling to has constitutional carry, does not mean you, as a non state resident, has the same protections as a state resident. Just renew the permit, it's legal insurance.

You can get taken into custody as much as you like, and argue your case later, at your expense. Or, get your reciprocal permit, and make it easier on the cop and the DA to not charge you for a technical violation, but we all make our own decisions.

It has not passed yet, but it will. And Landry will sign it.

One new twist Senator Miguez added it to the new SB 2 which is an incentive to keep getting your concealed carry permit because the new law gives concealed carry permit holders similar to qualified immunity that police officers have in case you get involved in a shooting.

If you take the course and have the permit, you get qualified immunity from personal injury lawsuits which means that the criminal that you shoot can't sue you

Win Win!

Thank you Blake Miguez!

Note: no thanks offered to Danny McCormick. He is an idiot

Anyone opposing him might want to ask Garrett Graves how that turned out. Landry is a lot of things, but vindictive tops the list.

If you went through the CCP class then you’d know that it’s stated several times during the class that anyone (permitted or not) that carries a weapon is “SUPPOSED” to leave that weapon locked up in a safe place if there is to be ANY sort of alcohol consumption (party, dinner, etc.) because if something were to happen the first thing those douchenozzle “dollar collar” attorneys look for is was their “poor POS victim” shot by an impaired CCP shooter. The instructor I had stated that very clearly numerous times.

Regardless of any situation, alcohol and firearms DO NOT mix well.

There are WAY more law enforcement agencies that are on board with this (constitutional carry) than what the media or leftover edwards cronies are trying to lead people to believe. I know we’re all for it!

With that being said, constitutional carry will pass and we won’t have to worry about the governor vetoing it nor will those slimeball fake republicans have a leg to stand on to kill it before getting to the governors desk.

And as for that booze hag ruining New Orleans and playing the routine race and victim card, she can GF herself and so can that babbling idiot, tony carter. They’ve both already started bitching about it. They’re nothing more than little puppets that are handled by their masters and literally cannot think for themselves. When dumbasses like that oppose something you know it’s a very good thing TO support.

Criminals don’t follow the law and could care less about CCP or constitutional carry laws. They’re called criminals for a reason.
