Our country is weak as frick right now. 75% of draft age men are too concerned about figuring out their gender pronouns. There would be massive protests for any type of military involvement and people would be freaking out that basic training is too brutal. Athletes like LeBron James and companies like Apple will keep their mouths shut. We don’t have the stomach for a war unless we were dramatically attacked like at Pearl Harbor.
If China was smart they could easily do whatever they want militarily right now as long as they don’t attack us.
On the other hand, why rush. China is playing the long game and if they don’t give us another common enemy to unite over then we will destroy ourselves from within.

Just curious, at what point do you consider it "our concern". If not Taiwan, then when?
- after the Chinese take Vietnam (after they're done with Taiwan)?
- or after the Chinese take the Philippines (after they're done with Vietnam)?
- or after the Chinese take Singapore (after they're done with Philippines)?
- or after the Chinese take Japan (after they're done with Singapore)?
Or when they start attacking US mainland?

I believe there is some type of research that shows over history whenever a population gets heavily tilted toward males they almost always go to war.
Not sure how that translates to modern times.

I remember speaking to a young Taiwanese woman back in the 1980's. She was adamant about a "one-China policy," and insisted that Taiwan has always been part of China, and will remain so.
I don't believe PRC will take Taiwan by force. It will be a willing reunification, with conditions--maybe as a self-governing province under the auspices of the PRC.

The only real reason China is waiting right now is the Winter Olympics next year. No one loves the Olympics more than the Chinese. After that happens or Western/Eastern countries start pulling out of the Winter Olympics, that’s when they’ll start putting their ducks in a row to invade Taiwan.

China is a much greater threat than the Soviet Union ever was. China is building up its military and it has something that the Bolsheviks never had: an economy to maintain it and actually dominate. And we gave it to them. The epitaph on the US grave stone should read:

Because they don’t understand the East. Maybe Singapore could become a puppet state, but they’ll do that slowly over time, not invade it. It’s a long way from China to Singapore while China can make multiple trips a day on the same ship from Taiwan to China. Takes over a day to go from China to Singapore by see one way.
