CBS News is asking the Federal Communications Commission to end its investigation into the edits of its “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris when she was vice president and the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee.
The media outlet argued Monday in its request that such a probe makes the federal government a "roving censor” in violation of the First Amendment.
The Center for American Rights launched an FCC complaint in October 2024, claiming news distortion, against CBS and its flagship television station, WCBS-TV, in New York, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“CBS distorted the news by using its slice-and-dice method of journalism to justify cleaning up the Vice President’s muddled and meandering answer,” the center said in the filing with the FCC.

Why is the FCC investigating the editing of a TV program? Seriously wtf

Should be a violation of the first for a “news” organization to heavily edit a political candidate’s interview in a way that would make them look more favorable.

I’ll bet they do. Election Interference is no small thing. Those who committed it should be prosecuted. Report the news factually and don’t weaponize/politicize it.

That's what I take from it... they're complaining censorship over the government investigating their censorship.

Is the show advertised as fiction/drama? Do they receive any federal grant money? Do they make any type of journalistic integrity claims?

Every news org that airs an edited interview should be investigated. Yes, this makes complete sense.

You forget that not only did they edit the video but they refused to release the raw footage of the interview. Obviously hiding the real footage for a specific purpose….to make Harris look better and help her election prospects. I’m fine with the investigation being dropped as long as CBS agrees to simultaneously release any and all full interview footage online to compare against their edited and aired versions. This should be the standard for all news organizations going forward. They are free to edit however they want and we are free to compare against the actual answers to look for inconsistency and bias.

Make them call it "News Entertainment" like they do with wrestling.

I don’t see anyone here upset about Fox News editing Trump interviews and never releasing the raw footage. Why not?

People were jailed for fricking political memes, and you think it's OK to mislead the nation during a presidential election?

If they have nothing to hide, why do you mind the government investigating…?
I don’t agree with the above, but isn’t that what you big government lefties like to say all the time?

Should be mandatory - so anyone can compare the published version to what was actually going on.
If you are not prepared to do that - don't do the interview.
These are SUPPOSED to be a true version of a real-life interaction - NOT a scripted propaganda message.

Show us the Fox interview that hurt you. Then we'll Mansplain the differences.

American Pravda says “quit snooping around our propaganda efforts on behalf of glorious Democratic Party!”
