I thought I read something somewhere a long time ago about the Queen of England owns most of the land in Canada and actual land ownership for citizens is different than what we perceive here in the US.

The use of the word 'absolute' seems to be catching on

Where is that land?

If you are talking about parts of the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, etc, it is empty because it is too fricking cold and no one lives there.

Most of the population lives in lower Ontario, IIRC.

You should not comment on mineral ownership underlying property. You do not know what you are talking about.

I thought technically all of Canadian land still belonged to the British crown even though they are an independent nation.

Seems I read when you “purchase” property in canada you really are just renting the rights to it from the crown.

ETA I’m correct

quote:

The land of Canada is solely owned by Queen Elizabeth II who is also the head of state. Only 9.7% of the total land is privately owned while the rest is Crown Land. The land is administered on behalf of the Crown by various agencies or departments of the government of Canada. The Canadian Act has no provision for any Canadian to own physical land in Canada. Canadians can only own an interest in an estate. Of the land owned by the Queen, 50% is administered by the provincial governments and the rest by the federal government. The Crown Land administered by the federal and provincial governments can be defined as land not assigned in freehold tenure. The land in Canada is mainly used as national parks, forests, private homes, and agriculture.

LINK

Not defending that POS Trudeau but he is technically correct. Canadians don’t have the absolute right to own land. They own interest in an estate controlled by the crown and it’s administered by various entities of the government.

So much for any South Park clips remaining on YouTube. Especially the Blame Canada song.

Can we spend 24 hours, take over Canada, and start calling it the Canadian States of America? Maybe throw Ole Justin Castro into a spike pit?

The amount of land is finite. The number of people is growing.

Eventually, there will not be enough land for everyone to own some, and only “privileged” will own land.

And you know what happens when governments begin to throw around that term.

Canada has natural resources that I'm sure a lot of countries would like to get their hands on. Timber, for example.

Well even in the States you only have rights to a certain amount of footage below your property. Anyone with enough money can get mineral rights directly underneath your property. This is not news.

Is the house that sits atop the land private property? Is a car private property? You see where this is going, don't you?

Do you have any idea of the context of the government official’s comment?

I know a residential developer who was smart enough to buy/claim the air space above his development. In other words, when Amazon starts delivering packages with drones, he can charge Amazon for the use of his airspace (or maybe he full of crap and doesn't know what he is talking about).

I've wondered what all a Trump could do to just completely destroy the political leaders on day one that would force them to stop being Chynas and the WEFs puppets. Declare them a communist state or something?
