Have they released the official cause of death?

haven't seen it released yet

do have to wonder if the ME is waiting for the tox reports to come in (I'm guessing the cops had to do 1 too)

but even then I'd have to imagine a "preliminary cause of death" would've been released already

I'm still hung up on the part that says they'd have to perpetuate an act eminently dangerous to others. Its clear that Chauvin did but the other 3 not so obvious.

Good catch. It seems to me that based on the statute that that could actually be the charge for the cop that knelt on his neck (3rd degree murder).

The case being that there was not an "intent" to murder but his "perpetrating an act" that was dangerous and led to his death was a depraved act with no regard to his life.

You're marinating in this stuff. A cop did something bad to someone you've never met a 1,000 miles from where you live, and it's emotionally draining? I hope you never have to deal with an actual tragedy in your life, because you're just going to melt.

I've dealt with plenty of tragedy in my life... the fact that you can't see the trauma in watching a man beg for his life while being murdered shows something wrong with you, not me.... Maybe it's because he's black that his life doesn't get the same emotional reaction, but again that's on you.

Some of us don't watch a video over and over, looking for anxiety and depression.

Try removing yourself from media.

Everyone feels that way. However, if their actions do not actually violate a criminal statute, what is it exactly that you want the court to do?

The non-existence of a criminal statute punishing that level of "complicit-ness" is not the fault of the court. Any fault for that would lie solely with the MN state legislature, who enacts such laws.

ETA: Here is a portion of the MN Criminal Statute regarding "Liability for the Crimes of Another":
quote:

Subdivision 1.Aiding, abetting; liability.
A person is criminally liable for a crime committed by another if the person intentionally aids, advises, hires, counsels, or conspires with or otherwise procures the other to commit the crime.

Here, again, there would be enormous difficulty in showing that the other officers intentionally aided Chauvin in committing murder/manslaughter. Their intent is what matters there, not what ended up happening.

Then the court of law has failed us. Those other officers were complicit in his death

the issue is... the defense of the other officers could be "we were trying to keep control an obviously chaotic scene"... which is part of their job

would be hard to convict someone who is doing 1 of the key aspects of his job... get things under control

If you’re witnessing a crime and don’t try to...

Just asking, are all those protesters trying to stop their fellow protesters from the thousands of crimes being committed right now?

Are we going old school, eye for an eye and erebody who was in the vacinity is losing an eye?

Btw, I agree, all 4 should face charges but Chauvin gets murder one

The video is extremely hard to watch and horrible, but why have they not released the cause of death.

If it was asphyxiation from the officer why haven’t they said something? It is ridiculous.

If it was something else then they should disclose it also.

Obviously the guy should be punished for excessive force at a minimum as I assume there is nothing that allows someone to choke someone until they are unconscious. If he killed the guy By choking him then state it and charge him.

This is dumb. Some of these items could have been completed faster if it really is what everyone says it is.

I can say what I want

You don’t say jack shite when other people are mistreated by law enforcement

You only think it matters when it happens to your community

The BCA took Chauvin into custody, pending charges.

So I can get arrested on "pending charges" now?

Not that I'm defending the act but jesus this is messed up.

Maybe it's because Daniel Shaver was white that his murder wasn't "emotionally draining" for you, but that's on you. You can look him up, because you've probably never heard of him.

Unlike the race baiters and opportunists I feel the same way about both of them; they're both murders and cops frequently get away with too much. But I'm not going to pretend to be personally impacted or that I'm going through some huge drama.

They witnessed their fellow officer choking out a guy simply for forging checks and did nothing.

I don't think that's a crime in our country. And I don't mean that in any snarky way, I just think it's a truthful statement.
