Can we just rename it JoeBidenstan?

This seems like a nightmare scenario. It's already teeming with people and it's going to take a long time to sort out who is entitled to leave and who isn't. They will essentially have to retake the entire airfield. A lot of innocent people are going to get caught in the crossfire.

I’m confused. Are you under the impression that we’ll be softening the Taliban in preparation for their arrival? The “deal” explains pretty plainly that escalation will be met with force but we otherwise won’t be.
Not that we realistically even could considering it’s in an urban area and, in case you missed it, surrounded by civilians.
The major danger here is that the airborne troops won’t be provided the same kind of support they normally would. If the Taliban decides to make a statement and attack the airfield, this could go from bad to effing terrible fast.
I’d also be blown away if they weren’t just flown in but I’m also not 100% up to speed on the conditions on the ground.

Feck Biden and everyone who voted for him.

Really praying for those guys, that is a very precarious position
Hope Biden doesn't abandon them there and make them march home

I assume the military has been game planning this for a few weeks because they all saw it as a distinct possibility.
So, the military was finishing up the withdrawal of all the troops, while at the same time... planning the deployment of troops?

That quite literally happened to at least one Brigade leaving Iraq in 2004.

We're talking complete extraction here. Nobody was planning anything, hence, the result we are seeing right now.
This isn't a situation where a unit is brought in to cover for a withdrawal, withdrawal has basically already happened.
If the troops at the airport can secure, there are many more options... without the airport, none of this is easy i.e. time.

US mass media will hail Biden as "the tough guy who stared-down the Taliban mano a mano and the Taliban didn't DARE challenge Tough Joe when he told them to "Stand down or else!" Tough and Gutsy Joe Biden wins the day again.
Only to later find out we bribed them with pallets of cash.

Or trust the Taliban at their word they will not interfere with evacuations?
It seems that if this were the case, we wouldn't need to send 1000 troops in.

If they are in any way competent, they would have 100 contingency plans, because shite goes sideways in a hurry sometimes. This is where we find out if they are in any way competent.

How are they going to get them in there?
The airport isn’t secure. Bullets flying. No security. People all over the tarmac.

My good friend is one them. Worried for him.

You want me to believe what we see here was the military’s “Plan A” and there was no Plan B?
Our politicians are fricking retards, but there’s no way the military didn’t have 10 different contingency plans. Am I crazy for thinking we heard about this at the same time as the military personnel in the region?

So.. the plan was to get stuck at an airport?
The military is basically out other than the ones at the airport, the only reason they are still there is by order. The military could have been out days ago, if you are ordered to stay... they stay.

My point is the military in that region would be incompetent if they weren't planning and moving assets into place for a possible combat mission to assist the withdrawal. The commanding officers would be derelict of duty for not preparing for this to go down and be prepped to keep our boys as safe as possible.
You mean the same military commanders who overestimated the backbone of the Afghan Defense Force? Or the ones who said it would take 90 days or more before the Taliban would have Kabul under control.
