Correct. I should have pointed out that the thread title is a copy and paste of the msn headline

Those girls don’t appear to have missed many meals in their lifetime if they are indeed 14.

That’s weird

My dad grew up picking cotton so that he could afford shoes to wear to school. That’s how he avoided feeling “uncomfortable”.

I’d bet these girls were the very worst in the class on this assignment.

The best, probably the Hispanic students.

If a parent named me either of those I would have killed them. Maybe this will be a lesson for their mother too.

Yeah. The brown bits at the bottom of the cotton plant fricking hurt when it's time to pick them. Gets worse the lower down the plant you go. The stuff at the top is pretty and very easy to pick, thus the Genesis of the term, "that's high cotton right there" in relation to something easy or fancy.

Students these days, man. Don't have shite to worry about or be scared about or to look forward to as well. Thus all this bullshite.

Those land whales will be lucky to hit forty without the fatass triple crown: type 2 beetus, hypertension, and joint pain.

What in the world?

Did they just put all letters into a hat and draw them and let that be the order of their names ??

It seems that they were teaching about the industrial revolution and the impact that the cotton gin had.

It was nothing about picking cotton. It was nothing about slavery. It was about technology and the industrial revolution.

Elit Whitney thought the cotton gin would help end slavery because you’d need less slaves to clean the cotton.

Ended up having the opposite effect as the demand for cotton grew.

Anyway I don’t know how you teach about it without mentioning slavery.

Soooo. They didn’t actually pick the cotton, they, and every other student in the class, did the job of the gin.

What he said.

It’s not stupid to teach students about the cotton gin, cotton, etc.

What’s the fricking issue here?

You think the mom is right here? Weird. I remember doing the cotton cleaning thing when I was in school.

Those have to be the moms. Because even if those women were skinnier, they would still look over 35 years old .

Sooooooooo...

They were tasked with CLEANING cotton and not PICKING cotton.

In fairness...they have been raised to believe words have no fixed meaning.
