Billionaire tax measure qualifies for California ballot

A one-time wealth tax on billionaires living in California has qualified to be on the ballot in November.
California Secretary of State Shirley Weber on Wednesday said the measure, called the Billionaire Tax Act, received enough signatures and will be certified on June 25 to be included on the ballot for the midterm elections.

If approved, the measure, championed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), would impose a 5 percent tax that allocates 90 percent of this collected tax revenue for health care programs and 10 percent for food assistance or education-related programs.

But the ballot initiative has divided some California Democrats who argue it could push billionaires out of the state — particularly in Silicon Valley. Google co-founder Sergey Brin previously warned that the tax will undermine California businesses and force businesses leaders out of state.
quote:
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) also opposes the initiative, arguing that it should be used across the country instead of solely in the West Coast state. He told The New York Times earlier this year that there was “no question in my mind” that the measure would be defeated.

This is what they call fraud in California.

I’m for this passing so the state is forced to reap the whirlwind
A 5% wealth tax is utterly insane
That’s equivalent in some ways to like a 80-90% Capital gains tax
But it makes envious fricks like Powerman and Tboy happy

So what do they consider "Living in California"? Also, what is considered wealth? Bc a lot of the billionaires they claim to hate aren't billionaires in their bank accounts, they are on paper.
Going to force them to sell shares in companies to pay the tax bills?

I absolutely love this for Cali. IF this is what they want, let them vote on it. If all the wealth leaves their state in it's answer to it, so be it.

If this looks like it will pass Silicon Valley will clear out. TX, TN, SC, and FL will continue to boom. This is such a bad idea even Gavin Newsom is against it.

Welcome to Texas, hopefully this craziness starts to change their view of the left. These are smart people, and even if they agree with the DEI stuff, they don't want the state taking their money.

Yeah, cause the money always goes where it is supposed to.

Gavin does not oppose it.
Gavin knows what this means for the Cali exodus.....wants the whole country do it.

Yes, they want to manufacture a financial crisis to run on this fall. It's all for power and they don't care who is hurt by the policies.

What's that? 50 million on a billion. Well, all they have to do is sell 50 million dollars of their stock.

This isn't as simple as logging in to their Schwaab account and hitting sell, but those who would vote for this have no understanding of that.

Bernie Sanders is a nut job.
Hopefully he runs for President again.

Predicable outcome when a state is ruled solely by the communist left. This won’t be one time either, it never is when it comes to leftist stuck their hands in peoples pocketbooks
