You guys have no idea how much I loathe the Bay and SoCal. It’s takes a special kind of stupid, pettiness, and jealousy to ruin paradise and those assholes are managing to do it in a very short period of time. Progressives are the absolute worst of American politics.

He told The New York Times earlier this year that there was “no question in my mind” that the measure would be defeated.

Per Grok:

quote:

Recent public polling shows the proposed California Billionaire Tax Act with a narrow majority of support, though the margin is not especially large.

Most recent major poll

A poll reported by the Los Angeles Times in March 2026 found:
* 52% support
* 48% oppose or undecided

Party breakdown According to the same poll:
* 72% of Democrats support the measure.
* 72% of Republicans oppose it.

Other reported polling More recent reporting has cited support around 54% among likely voters, suggesting support remains above 50% but is still relatively soft.

Earlier testing An earlier survey commissioned by opponents found only 48% support after voters read the official ballot title and summary, indicating that support can decline when voters hear criticisms of the proposal.

Bottom line As of June 2026, the California billionaire tax measure appears to be:
* Slightly favored to pass in polling (roughly 52–54% support).
* Highly partisan, with Democrats largely supporting it and Republicans largely opposing it.
* Potentially vulnerable, since support is not overwhelming and a very well-funded opposition campaign is underway.

"This is such a bad idea even Gavin Newsom is against it."

He doesn't think it is a bad idea. He just wants it to be universal across the US giving the people who want to flee his utopia no place to go.

I absolutely love this for Cali. IF this is what they want, let them vote on it. If all the wealth leaves their state in it's answer to it, so be it.

Yup. Some lessons have to be learned the hard way. New York City is in the process of learning that.

I get the sentiment. I really do and if we were to pass this we deserve every bit of hell that comes with it. With that being said, I hate that we’ve fallen this far. California has been home my entire life and I hate to see it fall into further ruin. It hurts to know what this means for the future if it passes and that the progressives will cheer it on. They don’t give a shite about the “little guy”. They don’t give a shite about anything other than assuming power and abusing it for their gain and the destruction left in their wake is not only acceptable but encouraged. This is just depressing.

How will the state determine a person’s net worth without invading their privacy? Are taxpayers going to be forced to submit balance sheets to the government?

Even Newesone knows it will hurt California. Of course he ok with if all the other states are included and it doesn’t cost his states their top tax payers. Even democrat politicians know wealth tax , reparations and healthcare for all don’t work . It’s why they refuse to do it in their state .

If approved, the measure, championed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), would impose a 5 percent tax that allocates 90 percent of this collected tax revenue for health care programs and 10 percent for food assistance or education-related programs.

Three of the top 4 most corrupt social programs in California. They probably figured that including funding to address homelessness would alienate voters since we seem to fund additional billions every election cycle with absolutely nothing to show for it.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) also opposes the initiative, arguing that it should be used across the country instead of solely in the West Coast state.

Dumb and dumber Newsom would see billionaires flee the country and not just Ca. These fools will kill and eat the goose that lays gold eggs.

Code for: we’ve already taxed everyone else and have run out of people to tax so let’s add another tax.

Democrats transitioned into commiecrats over the last few decades.

They'll give CA a local recession/depression if they keep it up.

No one shows $1B on their tax returns. How will they qualify who is a billionaire?

They need to pass a no investment trading law for congress is what they need to do. And term limits. If you are voting for your local congressman or senator and they have already served more than a few terms, you are part of the problem. They won't do it themselves.

I know, I know, but Pete, my guy is great and he makes a difference up there. I have to vote for him because the guy in the primary didn't have Trumps endorsement, or did have Trump's endorsement. It is all so tiring.

Same here. It's going to be hard to tax the wealthy when they've already fled the state. Next up: they will try to retroactively tax wealthy former residents of the state (it's already being discussed).

It's 'almost' like they want the billionaires to leave. Just like NY. Come to TX, FL, and TN.
