Making them for profit though is very USSR sounding to me personally.

At the height of their rule, the Soviets never locked up people at the rates the USA does. We can’t badmouth them for oppressing people with prison, that’s our jam

No one else has a large hip hop culture that glorifies crime like we do.

From a practical perspective (not that the imbeciles think about this) where are they going to put all of those criminals?! My guess is they're going to just let them all go.

As for the number of lost jobs.......

They aren’t necessarily shutting down prisons. They are ending the contracts with private for-profit companies to run them. The prisons themselves are likely federal property leased to the management company as part of the deal. When these contracts end, they will revert to the federal bureau of prisons and will be staffed by many of the same people who will now be employed in federal jobs. It will likely cost more but I am ok with it in this situation. I have worked in corrections years back and have seen both government managed and private run facilities. The government run facilities are much cater olaces for employees to work and for the inmates to live (if that makes a difference). Policing and incarcerating people is the job of the government and should not be contracted out to a for profit entity. It’s not an economic stance, but a philosophical one.

He's going to piss off a lot of state and US legislature type critters who are financially tied to and neck deep in these private prisons.

I agree with JoeJoe on this one. Private industry should not profit from the imprisonment of Americans.

The reason we contract with private prisons is because it saves money.

A private company concerned about profit margins will be much more cost-effective and cost conscious than a govt run prison.

prepare for prison costs to go up

In theory yes, but this is a situation where I agree with the left that the incentives are all sorts of fricked up. The state should hold the monopoly on legal use of force as much as possible, ergo they should run and operate prisons. Same logic as to why I am very uncomfortable with heavy use of private contractors in military settings (at least those carrying weapons like Triple Canopy, Academi, etc., not necessarily the boring maintenance and logistics stuff like General Dynamics and KBR).

I agree with you in theory but where to does this jerk off derive his authority to kill businesses and jobs as he wills it?

That's what Dems do.

Ok, social justice aside, I have to say that I find private prisons a little creepy and likely self-fulfilling prophecy.

Either our laws don't match our society or our society is just screwed but throwing everyone in prison for eleventy-million years isn't working. No one is afraid of going to prison. Recidivism is nearly universal.

So I'm happy about fewer prisons, altogether.

There will soon be a massive release of prisoners out into the world.

Crime will explode in the next 4 years.

This is due to lack of parenting and lack of personal responsibility, not lack of prisons.

He is just talking federal prisons? Because he can't do shite about what we do with our prison system in Mississippi.

Under Biden, the blacks will soon be free to commit whatever crimes they like. To charge them would be racist.

Pretty much every narrative about private prisons is total B.S.

We wouldn't need so many private prisons if Biden hadn't have sponsored the 94 Crime Bill and Kamala didn't enforce it with a vengeance.

What race is Rice?

What the hell was her American Dream? Seems like she "moved on up" a long, long time ago.

If our prisons were like Soviet prisons, maybe we wouldn't have thugs viewing prison as a vacation with buddies?

There was a time when this would have been fine with conservatives

Seems crazy that it isn't now
