Yep. And we were going to bleed 'em dry... not realizing that it would be Ukraine that we would bleed out.

Sanctions have no effect on Russia because they have means other than the US dollar.

It’s like WWII. The Russians struggled at first and lost whole armies. But it is a big damn country with massive resources. Here, the Russians have gone to school on the latest NATO weapons and tactics. And they have sorted out who their good leaders are. They are much stronger than they were at the start.

Ukraine is being depopulated.
Their male population has either fled, is at the front line or are casualties.
They simply cannot sustain what amounts to a WW1 style war of attrition against a nation so much bigger than they are.

Russia's conditions for peace are currently Unconditional Surrender of Ukraine. I don't expect them to move off of that.
