Gavrilo Princip was pretty fricking influential.

Stopping to get a sandwich in the right place changed the borders of Europe forever.

On the subject of Jesus, Paul writes of a celestial Jesus and never mentions himself nor anyone ever interacting b with a flesh and blood man named Jesus on earth. Paul specifically wrote that Jesus appeared after his death and resurrection in a new spiritual heavenly body. The gospel accounts cannot be corroborated and the mentions of Jesus in Josephus writings are obvious forgeries by later Christians especially Eusebius.

So Paul interacted with the Disciples, but issue of Jesus' existence in the flesh was not front and center.

Come on Squirrel, you are very smart and well-educated and respected for that. Don't go the self-delusion route and lose cred lest your rational arguments become "as sounding brass".

Of course I do. My point is that the belief that Jesus and/or Moses didn’t exist is just that- a belief.

To make it about the historical Jesus just makes no sense as there are lots of mentions of him.

Where? In the Gospels, with the only somewhat original work being Mark, who actually used Paul’s letters as source material, with the other gospels simply copying and rewriting Mark? Josephus- forgeries. Babylonian Talmud- hundreds of years later and it’s just attacks on Jesus’ followers. The only NT author that claimed to be an eyewitness of Jesus was Paul, and he states that he saw Jesus in visions after his resurrection.

quote:

Also, Paul talks about being the least of the disciples as he did not encounter Jesus during his life

Exactly. And when did Paul say that Jesus appeared to the others? Right before him, but after Jesus’ resurrection. Paul doesn’t ever make the claim that he knows anyone who ever met a flesh and blood Jesus on earth. When Paul is arguing against Peter, he says did I not see the Lord too just like Peter?

quote:

He talks multiple times about his death and resurrection.

Hmm. You’re right. Where did Paul say Jesus was killed, and by whom? And where did the killers of Jesus reside????

quote:

Paul absolutely believed in a physical historical Jesus.

Negative, chief. Read Paul’s letters and see if he ever mentions Jesus on earth. Remember that those Jews considered earth a less glorious copy of heaven. They believed there were trees, flowers, buildings, thrones, and temples in heaven. See if you can find Paul mention anything about Jesus being in Nazareth, or at the temple in Jerusalem, or Galilee, or if Paul mentions Pontius Pilate or Jesus’ birth.

If only there was an actual gospel of Jesus that actually corroborated Paul’s accounts and his beliefs of a celestial Jesus never being on earth and being crucified in Heaven like Paul actually states when he claims the archons of this age didn’t recognize Jesus and they wouldn’t have killed Jesus (in heaven) if they’d have recognized him. If only there were a gospel like that…

Oh shite there is!!!! It was found in Egypt and dates to the second century at the latest. It’s called the “Ascension of Isaiah” by scholars. Jesus dies when he is killed by the archons in heaven just like Paul states in his epistles. I have a copy of that translated to English. It’s a good read.

There is simply no reason to engage you further.

Matthew 7:6 "Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you."

Proverbs 26:4 "Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him"

Proverbs 14:7
"Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not meet words of knowledge."

Obviously you are referring to Joe Biden.

All of that is very noble, but the saving of 100 lives is nothing in the scale of this discussion.

Really? I didn't mention the thousands of women religious in her order. Or the many Houses of Prayer she started in countries around the world, including one in my hometown. Did you know that she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize?

Or the poor dying maggot-infested souls she rescued from the gutters of Calcutta. In case you don't know Calcutta, India is not a hospitable place - at least not back then in the eighties. I had a physician friend who volunteered his time every summer to work with St. Theresa in her center for the dying. I recall him telling us the first time he traveled to Calcutta, when they opened the door to that airplane he was taken aback by the stench.

So answer this if you can - for which one of these sacrificial noble acts would you refuse to allow St. Theresa of Calcutta to mingle with the elites of history?

Be honest!

Moses, the 12 Disciples, Constantine and Martin Luther are up there for me. I would add Da Vinci, Einstein, Alexander The Great, Hannibal, Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Pythagoras.

Is Revelation also part of the good news of mercy and love, when Jesus gathers the nonbelievers and watches the blood spill from them as he crushes them in his giant grape press?

He interacted with some of the apostles, not disciples, one of which at least was Peter. That’s according to Paul himself. The later stuff in letters he didn’t write and in Acts is untrustworthy.
