Right. I’m not really interested in having a discussion about poverty in other countries in a thread about economic conditions in the USA.

Do you not see how they are related? Or how capitalism influenced that?
It doesn't make you think why these other systems kept them down and how we've seen such improvement as more capitalism has been adopted? Or what would happen if the opposite happened and we started removing capitalism?

So, what exactly would be your reference point for a discussion about "Marxian economics" instead?

Because the text in the OP is meaningless absent any reference point?

Vis a vis "Marxian economics," of course.

I know. That’s why you refuse to respond to logic.
Care to respond to ANYTHING?

How do you propose having a meaningful discussion about Marxian economics while restricting the discussion exclusively to the U.S., a country that has never adopted a Marxist economic system?

I read a paragraph in an academic article that I found interesting. The text discussed current economic conditions in the United States that seem counterintuitive. I fail to see how comparing our current economic conditions to socialism helps to explain how our current conditions manifested. I just am having a hard time connecting those dots.

Define poverty.

Right. And meanwhile revolving credit card debt is close to all time highs.
Vehicle debt is also at an all time high
So what you're referring to as average might not apply to the "average" person.
The average of surplus income is extremely skewed by the top 10% of wage earners. So your bountiful disposable income statistic that you threw out does in fact need context.

So you chose the title of your thread as just inflammatory bullshite?

People make choices and spend their disposable income in stupid ways. Oh no!

See above.

Not at all. It isn’t a disposable income problem, it’s a spending on stupid shite problem.

Nope. You just think that people making stupid financial decisions means they don’t have disposable income. They have it, they just spend it on stupid shite.

I chose the title of the thread because the theorist who proposed the ideas in the quoted text comes from the school of thought called Marxian economics.
Just admit you didn't read the OP.
