If a rail strike happens this country is fricked beyond belief. It is going to be borderline catastrophic given the fragile state of current supply chains

I think it depends on the scope. I could easily see the government stepping in like with the air traffic controllers and forcing an end to the strike.

So your saying Biden will have a Ronald Reagan moment? I have no doubt he will screw it up.

What’s the mechanism for forcing workers to show up for work?

Good, maybe we will stop having to subsidize them.

Reading this:
quote:

Why is a strike looming?

A crucial issue preventing an agreement is some of the largest carriers’ points-based attendance policies that penalize workers, up to termination, for going to routine doctor’s visits or attending to family emergencies. Conductors and engineers say that they can be on call for 14 consecutive days without a break and that they do not receive a single sick day, paid or unpaid.

“All we’re asking is folks to be able to go to routine doctor’s visits without pay, but they have refused to accept our proposals,” said Dennis Pierce, president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET). “The average American would not know that we get fired for going to the doctor. This one thing has our members most enraged. We have guys who were punished for taking time off for a heart attack and covid. It’s inhumane.”

Any rail baws here to confirm or deny this?

Congress has the power. I'm not sure how they would enforce it.

It would seem that both sides would not want a strike but the Dems could just shut everything down, blame Trump, declare and emergency and cancel the elections.

Who would stop them?

It’s absolutely going to happen. This was all planned. Biden needs something to blame high prices on. Democrats are desperate for this strike.

I have friend who is a rail engineer. Dude has worked 7 days since July 1 and collects his full salary. Plays golf nearly every day while “on call”.

I need a job like that.

Well what happens after 14 days? You aren’t on call? So then you can go to the doctor.

They lose their job if they don't.
