Any rail baws here to confirm or deny this?

Yeah, I'd like to see it confirmed as well.

If true, that's highly unethical and immoral. I mean, not that it really matters to the powers in charge because I'm sure they still get off whenever they want and give themselves huge bonuses and raises... But still...

I can see it coming already. This move is "racist" because it will negatively impact poor and low income black Americans who depend on low cost Amtrak as a method of travelling longer distances.

Guy at my church retired from the railroad. He pretty much echoed you: horrible management, including orders to cut corners on safety measures.

All the time. Told to violate their own rules constantly.

Blind shove in the yard? Yardmaster says he'll watch it. Crew shoves out the other end into the side of a train. Crew fired for not protecting their shove. (Yardie is not part of your crew so cannot protect your shove per the rules. But he is the boss in the yard and told you to do it. boom )

I don't think you understand how it works. Biden cannot give the unions anything. Congress holds all the marbles and they are either going to force the PEB recommendations or grant another cooling off period. This is not a public union like the Air Traffic Controllers.
Yeah, I don't think many people understand. They presume like I did that it is like the regular unions.

What does "cooling off period" mean? I picture a heated meeting of BS and Fred & Barney go to a water buffalo meeting & then bowling.

I know...that is old school. But can they strike in cooling off period?

I think it depends on the scope. I could easily see the government stepping in like with the air traffic controllers and forcing an end to the strike.

Have you seen anyone affiliated with this administration* who is even remotely capable of ending a strike like Reagan did with ATCs?

I wonder if truckers finna eat on carrying grain? Is that even possible?

I have friend who is a rail engineer. Dude has worked 7 days since July 1 and collects his full salary. Plays golf nearly every day while “on call”. I need a job like that.

Sounds like some friends I have who are river pilots. Hearing them bitch about how difficult it can be when the chef doesn’t prepare their meals exactly the way they like it even though they’ve “told him several times.”

Real conversation just had this past weekend btw.

It's too complicated to explain to most here. But no to inane question.

Why say you are on call for 14 days if you are on call for longer?

You sound like a bitch.

Either you work everyday or you don’t.

The Presidential Emergency Board is appointed after both sides reach an impasse. They recommend a supposedly impartial settlement that is sometimes fair to both sides. The parties have 30 days to renegotiate based on the recommendations. If after 30 days of no settlement, then the 30 day cooling off period begins. If after that, and no agreement, the union is free to strike and the railroads can lock out the employees.

What this guy is describing is a rare occurrence. The railroads do have guaranteed boards but they normally keep them trimmed so everyone works daily. They do not like to pay guarantee.

Why is a strike looming?

A crucial issue preventing an agreement is some of the largest carriers’ points-based attendance policies that penalize workers, up to termination, for going to routine doctor’s visits or attending to family emergencies. Conductors and engineers say that they can be on call for 14 consecutive days without a break and that they do not receive a single sick day, paid or unpaid.

“All we’re asking is folks to be able to go to routine doctor’s visits without pay, but they have refused to accept our proposals,” said Dennis Pierce, president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET). “The average American would not know that we get fired for going to the doctor. If any of this is true they should strike. frick that.

Silly boy, or girl, or whatever gender you identify as today.

Reagan was president when ATC were fired.

Pedo joe is president *.

Do you understand the difference or do you need a dissertation?

If you want a dissertation, post your address and I’ll spell it out for you in crayons. I think you might understand crayons.

Yeah, back when I was on the extra board there were a few times I worked once a week. That shite didn't last long before they cut the board. They don't like paying the guarantee.

Had to go back on the ground once and another I changed terminals which actually worked out for me as it was where I wanted to be.

If this strike even happens, it won't last but a few hours. Congress will order them back to work very quickly.

They can be ordered back to work but I bet they have an incredible slowdown if so.

They feel that they are getting fricked on working conditions and the ability to actually get time off as opposed to being on 24 hour call for weeks. Make them work through this and they may physically be there but they will be doing everything slowly in the name of safety.
