i'd never heard of the rapture until i went to college in 1979 (ouachita baptist university) it hit it's peak in the mid 80's with the dan brown books.
it's not part of the catholic faith, and it's not part of the southern baptist conventions doctrine, but they leave it up to the individual churches.
right now muslims make up 1-1.5% of the US population roughly 4 million people, conversely catholics make up 22% of the US population that's 77 million people.
